Some pics of my kit. Also realize taking pics of small red buttons isnt easy, esp. since I was in the dark taking these...camera tends to pick up light much differently.

A message from the first customer :)
fastcb (through LightWerkz) performed a red-out service on my HVAC, window switches, I/C and Fog light switches. I also did the key ring and cig lighter with the provided red bulb condoms. Cory (fastcb) did an amazing job and I'm really, really happy with it.

I recommend this service to anyone considering 'redding' out their interiors, but don't have the ability/tools/time to do it.

Anyway, it was a very easy transaction - removal and shipping instructions are given, and the turn around time is very quick. As you'll see below, the outcome is amazing. This truly has transformed the interior of my car.

how about the gauges for an 02? I paid $7 for bulb condoms and did the rest myself and changed the color of the radio and gauges lcd screens. The only thing that doesn't look quite right are the gauges themselves ( not a bright enough red) didn't sand the backs though.

Red and other "warm" colors are actually better for night driving anyways. Your eyes recover faster from looking at them than "cool" colors (greens and blues). However, I still just really like the way it looks anyways. :)

Damn, I want this done soooooooooo bad!!!! Couple of questions though first.

1.Can i get the instructions for removal?
2.Looks great, but how will the colors hold up over time? Fading?
3.What is the wait time on this? Is there a waiting list yet?
4.Off topic, but maybe you guys would know! driverside window switch has auto roll down. Is it possible to add this to the Passenger side by just plugging in another driverside auto switch or is the switch on passenger side different on the bottom or different wiring?

Thanks! looking forward to having this done as soon as I can!!!!!

Bump! for a GREAT SERVICE and PRICE!!!

Thanks for the interest!

1. The instructions are emailed to you by Lightwerkz once you decide to use the service.

2. As far as fading, LEDs are used in the window controls, h/l level switch, & HVAC controls-no fading there. Wherever condoms are used, the bulbs are colored red before applying the condom to enhance coloring and prevent fading.

3. At this time, there is no wait time. Two customer's pieces were recieved at the end of Tuesday and shipped at noon today.

4. I do not have an answer as far as changing the p/s window control to auto-rolldown. If you found a button that was a direct fit and the wiring supported such function, I think it would be a go! I do know there is no light wiring and no ability to add lighting to this switch at this time due to the design of the switch on the p/s window controls.

Please contact Lightwerkz to intiate the process!

Thanks again.

To all three previous posts; Yes, we can do gauge clusters in red and blue. The cost at this time is set at $85 for a cluster. Please contact Lightwerkz to begin the process.

Turnaround time is usually 24 hours or less. All work is guaranteed to work and if it fails, we fix it.

I need my 05/06 havoc/window switches done to match my STi cluster.

I'm located in NY but don't really want the down time. Do you guys have any spare units and charge a core charge? Or maybe if I can just come to you guys and get it done. (not sure how long it would take you)

Just to clarify, from what i remember only the drivers side window switch lights up. Are you guys modding it so that all 4 buttons on that same switch lights up?

Thanks,
Alan

I'll be watching this thread to see how it comes out. I really want white led's in the hvac on mine but know its not quite as easy as the 04sti's or newer style hvac controls.
I successfully scraped off the green on my cluster so I'm just waiting for mechie to finish getting the leds ready and the white wrx cluster I've always been wanting will be mine:D
Hope you guys have some good results on the older style hvacs.

BTW, is there any way to mod the red STI cluster to blue?

Mechie3
07-23-2007, 01:09 PM
There are two ways.

1: De solder the red leds and solder blue leds in place. Unless you pay for the expensive 2 volt blue leds, the standard 3.6 volt blue's won't light up all the way and may be dim (mazda 3 owners do this

2: Desolder the red leds, wire in white/blue/whatever color led you want, with by tapping power from somewhere else.

With both ways, leave the red leds under the redline.

Has anyone done either of these? Doubt it.

chrisarella
07-23-2007, 01:20 PM
You want to take a crack at it for me if I send you the cluster (obviously for compensation).

fastcb
07-23-2007, 01:23 PM
BTW, is there any way to mod the red STI cluster to blue?

We are debating whether to offer the cluster service or not. Clusters are VERY sensitive instruments that stand a good chance of being damaged during the intense process of conversion. I for one do not want to be in the business of buying replacement clusters.

That being said, we can convert any cluster to any color. How much do you want to pay? We have offered conversions for $85. These take in excess of 8 hours to perform. I normally make $30/hr in my "day job". So, to make it worthwhile, we need to charge around $250 for a cluster.

Not sure if I'd want to take up an STI cluster now since I'm a little busy with standard conversions.

Fastcb...I understand you. I've been doing a few of these and I end up making ~ $4/hr when all is said and done. Far cry from my normal salary. Still, I look at it like this at times: I'm either making money while watching TV, or I'm not. Either way it's extra money. Problem is, sometimes vegging out and doing nothing is better.

How much do you charge to add lighting to the other switches on the drivers side switches and, if possible, the passenger side. Ideally I'd like every window switch in the car to light up...is this possible and what would you charge. Is this something that I could do myself? Not sure if I can ship all my switches out to texas and not be able to roll my windows down. :)

Any luck on changing the clock to red??? Let me know, very interested.

What Mechie3 said plus this:

We are not going to sell some homemade piece of poo to our customers. The clock face has chamferred rectangular holes for the set buttons and "H", "M", and "SET" silkscreened onto the face. We would only deliver an exact comparison, only red (or blue, etc.). This requires working with an injection molding company to develop a prototype lense, paying a prototype fee, paying hard tooling costs, and paying for a certain minimum quantity to start selling.

I sent my HVAC and drivers door switches to Lightwerkz so they could change the color to red and add LED's to the drivers door. WOW what an amazing job. Now I want to do the fog light switch and front passenger door. Now that everything but my cluster is red my blue Pioneer radio kinda stands out. :/

Oh yeah and I also got in the JDM silver HVAC rings. I decided to leave the center section the way it was. Overall I'm extemely pleased with the results.

Big thanks to Caesar and Cory and double thanks to Cory for quick turn around time and awesome work.

Here are the pics.

Taken in the daytime with the headlights on to show how much brighter the center button light is. Remember how dim the stock Amber LED is in the daytime with the lights on?

Door switches are bright even during the day and stay on even if lights are off, I really don't mind that though.

Taken at night, with center button lights on.

Taken with center button lights off.

Drivers side door panel lights. VERY BRIGHT! I love it!

If I decide to get JDM HVAC controls in the future, would I have to send them out and get them redone? I think I'm going to have the following things sent out to you guys while my car goes into the shop.

07 WRX LTD

Gauge cluster $125
HVAC controls $35
Window control switches $25
Foglight & Windshield De-icer switch $20So $205 plus shipping?

I think the JDM controls are just the knobs and if that is truly the case, then you would not have to send them back in for conversion. The LEDs are on the control board.

LOL. We have never converted a windshield De-icer switch before. All switches with one bulb are $20 and switches with two bulbs (auto intercooler, fog) are $25.

We look forward to serving you! Contact sales@lightwerkz.net to begin the process.

BTW, I converted my clock to red this week! I am having some lenses made.

The method will be the "cut the center out of the existing lense" style but with extreme high quality that will look completely factory.

I am also having some red OEM (05-06) head unit lenses made.

Very soon we will have the total package!:D

Excellent and Nice work from Cory I just sent my stuff to texas and in 24 hours it was done.. excellent service!!

I will agree with some guys here Cory, maybe you can make the centre hvac controls as bright as the centre leds, as an option?? or a little bit brigther..... that will look awesome... or maybe just remove the green filter from the controls will do the trick?

Maybe the passenger switches could get the stock lenses apearance from a stock subaru driver side switch?? just a suggestion if possible..?? more money of course but it will match the whole interior

Bumps up for an excellent service!!

The green "filter" is actually the green plastic the knob faces are painted onto. there is no way to remove the green plastic short of a completely custom injection molded piece that would cost $$$thousands$$$$.

Just received my door control piece with red LEDs, and it looks great! VERY bright tho. In fact, I did not realize HOW bright it is.

Yeah I have been keeping up with the thread, and I saw the above pictures, but I guess I did not realize how bright the lights were in the picture.

Any suggestions for toning it down a bit? Daytime is fine, but it is night driving that will be the killer. As it is, I shut off my AP and hide my Pioneer headunit. Which brings up another question...

I talked to Caesar about this, but he did not have a definative answer. Can you modify lighting on non-OEM headunits? This is what I have: http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q90/aboothman/Car/DEH-P7800MP_MAIN.jpg

Hey guys , i noticed that my 07 STI head unit is slightly different to the 05/06 you have posted . Do you have the lens for an 07 head unit with the Serrius ready in it ? As for my cluster , the only green light is the headlight on indicator- would I have to send the whole cluster out to change just that one light? And how about the 07 clock that has the passenger side airbag on/off light? Let me know cause I would like to get everything done.

Pm me price on everything: 1-radio (including lens if you have it for my unit)

6-keyhole light
7-fog light
8-headlight leveler

The '07 head unit display is an LCD backlit type of display, whereas the
'05/'06 display is a LED type of display. The only way to change the color of the '07 HU is to change the color of the backlight. We have been able to work with the '05 HU because that is what we drive.:) If someone wants to donate their '07 HU for R&D, that would be great!

We have not explored any modifications to the STi cluster to date. We have modded many WRX clusters and that requires removing the film behind the gauge face and converting the incandescent bulbs to LEDs. This would require the cluster being sent to us.

The process for the '07 clock is the same as previous years and yes, we can do it!

You have been PM'd!

Thanks Cory. You're the best.

This type of service is why I have referred over 20 people to you guys over the past month. I get asked about my headlights and interior all of the time from people seeing pictures plastered all over the boards and my website which gets a ton of traffic. Which reminds me...

I don't know if you or Caesar have seen it you but I thanked you guys in my writeup. I entered my car in the Battle of the Wagonistas, Top Scoob 004 which was initially opened up to any owner of a modified Impreza wagon. I never really believed I had a shot but a friend convinced me to enter it, and through a series of voting I made it to the final round with only two other wagons vying for the title. I'm getting my but handed to me in this final round but it's still good publicity for you guys.

Sorry for not replying to your question sooner. I absolutely meant to but time got away from me.

The only way to dim the window control lighting is to reduce the current through the LEDs. That requires that you return the controls to us.

LMK what you want to do.

As for the aftermarket head unit, I thought Caesar had relayed back to you that we would love to try it! Sounds like fun! The caveats are:
There is no way to tell what kind of LEDs are used before dissassmbling the unit. Once disassembled, we would have to order the correct replacement LEDs and that would take time to get the right parts. If you can do without the face for awhile, we would love to take a shot at it and if we could not do anything (I doubt that we can't), no harm, no fowl.

Yes, not an issue, other than the fact that you have to drive grannyazz slow because you won't know how fast you are going and wouldn't want to get pulled over without a cluster tracking ODO miles. Would anyone be interested if we offered a core swap process? Basically, this is how it would work; we send out a full interior set already converted and bill a core fee. The customer receives the parts, swaps them out, ships his old components back to us, and we refund the core fees as long as the return parts are in resellable shape.
We are completing our first set of components for this process (HVAC, Clock, IC sprayer, headlight leveler, fog switch, window controls, and have spare clusters ready for color application).

Dragon and Alan,

Both of you have the black-face knobs requiring you remove the knobs from your unmodified HVAC unit before you ship them back. This is very simple process. We would send instructions on how to perform knob removal and ship the modified HVAC units without knobs out to you.

Core prices are as follows:

HVAC-$75
All window controls and switches (IC sprayer, Headlight Leveler, etc.)-$25 each
Clock-$25

We also have an 07 head unit that we can modify the faceplate and ship out. Core charge-$100

Right now we only have one full set of cores modded red and ready to go.

What's up Chris! When are you going to send in that head unit and other stuff bro?

The 04 model year climate controls are electronic and the 02/03 WRX climate controls are manual (cables) to my knowledge.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Cory. Life has been crazy busy and it's been tought finding the 10 minutes to pull my interior apart. But I did it this week. I'm painting my interior trim today with Plasti-dip and I just got the stereo out. LOL

This would require you to purchase an STi cluster (there are vendors on this board) and send it in to us for conversion. We can convert the STi cluster to green-no problem!

We are always pushing the bounderies with our continuous R&D efforts. We just completed light converisons on both Auto Meter and Prosport Professional Series gauges.

We also just finished an early model rearview compass mirror and HVAC unit from an '03 wagon in blue.

Leonardo,

Thanks so much for the title update!

Yeah, we are now converting Homelink mirrors to red! $30 + return shipping.

There are already several providers of ambient lighting conversions and this type of effort takes a large-scale production effort. We like to keep things simple as a service for members to send their stuff into or use our core swap process.

Thanks again!

We recently converted another 05-07 HVAC control to blue-the results were phenomenal! We are also converting our first JDM STi cluster this weekend! That is gonna be fun!

We are also awaiting another set of Defi white gauges to come in for conversion to blue (same customer with the HVAC).

Now here is a REALLY cool thing-an 07 head unit with a complete LED swap-pics forthcoming!

The JDM cluster was lost in transit! I went to pick it up at the PO and all I got was the brown paper wrapper it was packed in!

Word to the wise: specify better packaging than a simple brown paper wrapper when purchasing from oversees on eBay!

The customer had no recourse and is out the money and there is nothing I could do for him.

As a matter of fact we recently finished an ambient lighting system requested by a customer. We installed two recessed red LEDs in the map light console. These LEDs will shine down on the center console-it should look awesome! We have not heard back from the customer but hopefully soon!

We also just completed another round of R&D on our 06/07 clock conversion. We found the optimum brightness for the air bag indicators and adjusted the current through the clock display for max brightness and match to the air bag lights.

Thanks Ronin STi for being our guinea!

Well i just took some pics of my recently finished interior conversion. everything came out perfect and i cant say enough nice things about lightwerkz and cory over at interior flair!

Turn around time was extremely fast and everything, especially the cluster turned out better than i could have even imagined.
Cory came up with the idea of have the red line portion of the cluster pink instead of cherry blossom red and have the "7" and "8" in white. He also surprised me with making the "impreza" white as well.

I took the best pics i could with my little point and shoot camera but im going to try and get better ones with my girlfriends Nikon slr since the colors did not come out very accurate. everything lights up a nice deep cherry blossom red and not the red orange as the pictures show.

Absolutely! As a matter of fact, I have a cluster right here not converted. I can convert it, charge you a core, and send it out to you. When I get yours back, I refund the core.

No down time!

LMK,

CB

Just saw your post...
Do you only have the cluster for an 02?

Could you do a core exchange for an 06 impreza?

Edit:
Would anyone be interested if we offered a core swap process? Basically, this is how it would work; we send out a full interior set already converted and bill a core fee. The customer receives the parts, swaps them out, ships his old components back to us, and we refund the core fees as long as the return parts are in resellable shape.
We are completing our first set of components for this process (HVAC, Clock, IC sprayer, headlight leveler, fog switch, window controls, and have spare clusters ready for color application).

CB

Sorry again, just saw this as I read on through the thread lol.

I'm 100% interested in a core swap.
If you have the parts to swap me on a 2006 2.5i that is.
Please get back to me asap, my cars going into the bodyshop right away for an insurance claim so I'll have a free courtesy car for awhile and it would be the best time for me to do it!!
