Anybody heard anything about the new viper alarm system? I heard a commercial mention something about it on the radio, anybody got any details on it?

vipers have pretty much been the same, they just keep adding features to it. Most of the new ones have two way pager remotes, it tells you what is going on right away.

Put a 791xv (or something like that) into a buddies altima, he's happy with it.

Looks like the viper 5900 is the same as the clifford rsx 3.5 and viper x791...but it has 1 mile radius

I don't know where you can get it done since I don't live in your area, but I have a Viper Alarm with a remote start and it's a five speed, so if anyone says it can't be done, they're full of it.

Was at firebird raceway a few months ago. Moron left his manual car in gear, and tried to start it......forgetting about having the car in gear. Car jumped forward and stalled, but continued to roll right into a flawless Toyota Supra. Cops had to come and break up the fight that followed.

 The biggest problem is when SOMEONE else drives the car last and leaves it in gear. A buddy of mine had a firebird that was more than powerful enough to drive away with the e-brake on.

With a subaru, it's not a big deal, the transmission has a nuetral safety switch built in. I would do some research and find out where the wire is tapped at in the cab, taht way you can be sure your alarm uses that wire, even if you have to tell them.

I have installed alarms and car audio for over 7 years now. The STI has an ingear sense wire that tells the PCM when it is out of the neutral position in any gear. What I did was tie this wire (is located at the PCM harness under passenger floor board) into the Neutral safety wire of the alarm and wah-la! To make it double redundant I paralleled the parking break wire into this line so both wires have to generate a ground input to the alarm to remote start... if it is in gear or if the parking break isn't set no start. How much more fool proof you need? Also, to add, if the hood is popped it won't start either... but that is alarm operation by default. Viper 791XV ftw! Clifford Matrix RS3.5 is exactly the same fwiw

So what now, there is something that tells the car if the hood is popped too on our subies??? It sounds like you know alot about this stuff. Im interested in getting an alarm installed in my car but most of the kids at the Audio Expresses, Best Buys, and Ultimate Electronics have no efing idea what they are doing. Cuz I want the Viper that also has the broken glass sensors, turbo timer, and remote start. Would you be intersted in doing an install? Every Alarm I have ever had on my other cars was not done correctly. Like with the turbo timer on I could let the e-brake down, put in the cluth, and drive AWAY! I was like WTF.

The turbo time is a built in and it is just a matter of pressing two buttons before turning the car off to activate it. The hood pin is a physical pin that I would install to tell the alarm that the hood is open to prevent remote starting while someone is working under the hood. Glass sensors are nice and easy to setup, but they can be pricey for a good piece. If I depress the clutch about 1.5" in it activates the pin switch that tells the car to disable the cruise control and the alarm looks at this pin too and disables the remote start. This car is rather easy to do anything on from what i have seen as I have installed every single thing on my car. Here is my post from iwsti.com when I was just starting my car:

Here is when I was building my box

I am thinking of heading out to the meet today... if you are there I would more than happy to show you the alarm and everything I installed to give you an idea. I am planing on heading back home to Rancho Cucamonga this weekend to start packing to move back here. I would love to do the install (as I can always use the extra money) but it would have to wait till I can get back. LOL, kinda funny but the ADT guy came to install the house alarm yesterday and saw my STI and asking about the alarm and is contracting me to install his alarm/remote start on his truck... kinda ironic.

Yeah sounds good. Just let me know when you get back. I won't be at the meet tonight. I have to be somewhere. That is funny, he comes to do the house alarm, you do the car alarm.

How soon are you looking to do this.... I got out of having to go back this weekend but all my "specialty" tools are at home in Rancho and I would have to bring them back... but at the same point I might be able to do it with what I have here.

A month or so. I'm tired of worrying(SP?) about my car all day and everywhere I go. I just don't want to spend $500 on a d@mn alarm but I will if thats my only option. Know of anywhere I can get one a little cheaper, even used. The turbo timer isn't necessary. I do want a two way pager and glass sensors.
