View Full Version : How about a tiny (LED) shift light?

I searched, and did see the Cusco cigarette lighter shift light, which was interesting. I don't want the big Autometer style light--I want something like the STi has stock. A simple LED, either in the instrument cluster, or even on the dash as many alarm systems are wired (with the LSD as a deterrent). Has anyone done this--and, more helpfully, documented what they did? :)

In search, I also saw mention of something I hadn't heard of before. From a FS thread:

"$275 - 2004 WRX Cluster (11K Miles on ODO) With RPM Alert. This cluster has the center tach arrangement as on STis as well as a light the same as STi cluster. It also has buzzer, very helpful for track racing. Easy 3 wire hookup. All instructions are included."

I'd be very interested in this as well.

I'd be interested in this as well. I've seen a few kits online, but nothing looks that great. I'd go further with it though and install a line of lights, green through red for the last 2000 rpm range (settable of course).

I saw that FS thread. If you look closely, you can see a buzzer module or something wired into the back. On my 2006 gauge cluster the circuit board actually has empty solder pads for the shift light and whatnot, the spots just have no components.

I use a DEFI VSD HUD for my shift light. Instead of a sudden "lights on shift!" it has 8 leds in a row that light up sequentially. This lets you know, without looking down, where you are in your rev range and how soon the shift mark is coming up. Kind of like a yellow light at traffic stops instead of just green to a sudden red.

revlite has a sequencial shift light. I had it in my old car, and the concept was a giood idea but it is just made all wrong. The red lights are to stong so you don't see the final 2 light (green and yellow), and it would never keep it's set shift point, so it was uselss except for a one day use.

For a simple very discreet one light setup I would go with this. i have no experiance with this product.

At the monent I am useing the turboxs knocklite. Very nice product. Lights up when you get knock, from a bad tank of gas, and provides a nice shift light also.

I use the utec shift lights.. 3 stage, green is at 4k, red at 6k, and I have it buzz at 6.5k..

real easy to setup also. You could use a smaller light/led if you wanted.
