View Full Version : BIG POWER? what 4 tuning? POLL
devildevil 03-13-2007, 11:07 PM i'm trying to decide if i stay with my AP or go with something else. ar fabrication said the utec would net more hp and also that they can wire in an aem ems to also control the built auto. IF YOU ARE RUNNING OVER 400 WHEEL HP PLEASE TELL ME WHAT ECU/SOFTWARE YOU ARE RUNNING ALONG WITH WHAT SIZE TURBO AND INJECTORS. thanks.
dibblejr 03-13-2007, 11:13 PM I voted other only because you really need to find a local "suby" tuner and find out what they recommend. It would be a waste of $ if you buy an EM system and your tuner cannot tune for it.
Of course if you know what you are doing and by the Tactrix cable the above is "null and void"
Good luck

devildevil 03-14-2007, 12:12 AM if i were to go aem ems and have it wired to control my trans i'd have ams tune it. traveling is not a problem. truck and trailor await with a pretty much limitless driver's checkbook and he just told me wherever you gotta go we're going. just not sure how much it'd cost or how hard it'd be to wire the aem to my trans for controlling it. i'd go dox bog if i wasn't so far into it already.

As much as I support the Enginuity/OpenECU movement, I'd have to say that this setup would work best with either Hydra or a UTEC running speed density.
However.....it looks like speed density will be on the horizon with Enginuity.
blueflu 03-14-2007, 01:02 AM I have a element tuning gt-75 kit on my car with dpr stg4 cams and 1000cc injectors and it idles and drives like a stock car! P.S I need bigger injectors im thinking 1600's! Hydra is amazing along with phil's tuning of course!
dug-e-fresh 03-14-2007, 09:22 AM The UTEC has proven itself more than capable of supporting BIG power... it gets my vote.

SloRice 03-14-2007, 02:16 PM I wish I could vote twice. I have a flash on top of a UTEC with the SD firmware. Works great and I made 500whp with it.
But I'm going Hydra because I'm tired of dealing with two different engine management systems and MAP based EM is the way to go!
checque 03-14-2007, 04:11 PM I've heard of some people, albeit very rare, having issues with the AEM turning off/on randomly. I was about 99% sold on AEM, but then I started checking out the SM-4 and bought that. UTEC and Hydra are definitely well proven, I would've kept my UTEC if I wasn't so set on being different and spending a lot of money.
Element Tuning 03-15-2007, 05:34 PM To make big power you really need head work and cams but I guess big power is a different number for different people. When you do head work and cams you are really best off with a good stand-alone and preferably go with a brand that can provide you with a good base map and tuning assistance. Lots of resolution also goes a long way to ensuring the car makes optimal and safe power at all boost levels along with great drivability.
I think the Element Hydra is the best but I may be a little biased ;)
Thanks,
Phil

You're entitled to it. ;)
devildevil 03-15-2007, 11:03 PM well my stage 4 port job and crower 272's will work just fine for me, but I guess head work and cam levels are a different level for different people... :p thanks -
STIred05 03-15-2007, 11:55 PM Any of these ems should be good for 400+ but it depends on your turbo set up and others to but what are you planning on running?
devildevil 03-15-2007, 11:58 PM bought a utec today  :disco:  :disco:  but anywho it's a gt40, 272's stage 4 port job, fully built trans, 1k cc's, agency rails, sti swap, cp pistons. there's LOTS!
gold rush 03-16-2007, 12:19 AM Autronic SM4, EJ207, GT35r, 900cc injectors...
Strarts everytime in Canadian winters:)
BALISTC 03-17-2007, 11:16 AM MoTeC M800. IMHO, Best ECU available.
Plug and play, amazing resolution, crazy driveability, and awesome features such as dual stage antilag, flat shift, nitrous/water spray control, ability to hook up fuel pressure sensors, etc.
If you want to go further, you can get the gold box version with plug-in loom, and spend as much money as you like on other options...pro analysis, wide-band lambda, full datalogging, telemetry, sensor/injector error detection, etc.
Sky is the limit with MoTeC, and if you can find someone who can competently tune it, you'll be extremely happy with the way it drives.
srREXed 03-17-2007, 01:09 PM Motec is niiiiice! I have an AP but as soon as I can unmarry it ill sell it. I have a UTEC and would highly recommend that for your 400hp target. 800cc inj
treefrogaz 03-18-2007, 03:20 AM Element Hydra FTW :D
dug-e-fresh 03-18-2007, 12:30 PM Which ones will pass an OBDII check?
def
rlavalle 03-18-2007, 02:29 PM Any that keep the stock ECU in the loop:
Access Port
ECUTEK
UTEC
or a combination of UTEC and the others.
BALISTC 03-18-2007, 07:39 PM Definitely not the MoTeC :)

thanks for the answer... albeit, it was rhetorical ;)
