View Full Version : Wtf Detonation
fastlanerex 03-13-2007, 11:46 PM How am I detonating with the ots stage 2 map with a turboback turboxs intake and hks ssqv I mean somtimes the cel will flash at me and it retards timing:devil: and other times she pulls like a champ.:) What the hell is going on here Dont have a laptop or id data log the ***** for you all. It really only does it when the temp goes down at night and in the mornings. Does anyone know how to fix it? Bye the way I just ordered my front mount. Bigger turbo here I come.

Someones gotta know but im gonna give it a shot still have to do my uppipe install along with it.
You people on here for the Utec have been no help at all.:furious:
Gethin 03-14-2007, 04:42 PM the stage 2 map needs to be tuned for your car. Without a laptop, how do you expect to accomplish this? What gas are you using? Have you read the manual?
dingobite 03-14-2007, 05:04 PM BOv maybe ??
fastlanerex 03-14-2007, 07:00 PM I plan on more mods so I figure wait till im done turbo upgrade and all supporting mods, and fmic then get it tuned. How can it be the bov when its not detonating in between shifts. If it could be the bov please explain. It's doing it at about 4000 rpm in a 3rd or 4th gear pull. Anyways I put turbo 108 octane boost in my tank when I filled it with 93 (I've always used 93 octane) and no more detonation so i'm thinking it was bad winter gas. What do you think?
fastlanerex 03-14-2007, 07:11 PM one more thing if I disconnect the neg battery terminal to mod will my stage 2 map get erased if so how do I get around this?
Gethin 03-14-2007, 07:27 PM No your map will be ok in there. It's stored in non volatile memory, so a battery disconnect wont affect it. The basemaps are just to get you running, dont mash on the go pedal with an untuned basemap. Max torque is around 4k to 4.4k so probably timing or boost was causing the det, also possibly too much fuel as the basemaps are super rich. If you had winter gas in there it was more than likely causing the det. The txs basemaps are designed for nice clean 93 octane. Take it easy until you get it tuned. That vta bov will skew your afr's between shifts.
fastlanerex 03-14-2007, 07:30 PM okay thanks for the advice damn I gotta wait A while to romp on her. can I run a front mount on the stage 2 basemap until I get an uppipe and then go to stage 3? nobady has answered this question I posted almost 4 days ago?
fastlanerex 03-14-2007, 08:30 PM this is the stuff I used in the gas no det yet so I think ill use this in everytank.

MRF582 03-14-2007, 08:42 PM that sucks
dingobite 03-15-2007, 08:06 AM That map your running isnt meant for anything thats not listed on the od path messing around with other parts is just asking for trouble.
If you must put the Fmic on id only prep it, id fix it to the bumper and wait for a temp limp map when i knew i was getting tuned, the Bov is screwing with your car regardless what you think of it if it hasnt been tuned to your car and some. If i needed to have a bov id wait till i saw my tuner then swap it on, i myself im going to use a forge bpv, when my stuff is complete soon omgosh its pretty darn loud to with a Db 16g.
Dont screw your wrx up. :p
dingobite 03-15-2007, 08:10 AM this is the stuff I used in the gas no det yet so I think ill use this in everytank.

Thats stuff sucks used it when i had 10gallons of 87 in my tank by stupidity at the pump and steadily filled 93 so i could drive it to E.

fastlanerex 03-15-2007, 07:15 PM What do you mean temp map and how do you tune for a bov
big16gwrx 03-15-2007, 07:32 PM check to see if you got the big turbo xs intake or the small one. they put out two and if you got the big one it can mess up your afr's and cause you to throw codes like crazy.... call dan at mach v he knows all about it.... or call txs and ask which one you got...
fastlanerex 03-15-2007, 07:38 PM never thrown any code having to do with an intake? I think it's the small one i mean it looks like it is I just bought it about 3 monthes ago?
aaronmsadler 03-16-2007, 03:53 PM this is the stuff I used in the gas no det yet so I think ill use this in everytank.

That stuff is a joke:lol: The only thing that stuff is good for is ruining sensors.
aaronmsadler 03-16-2007, 03:55 PM What do you mean temp map and how do you tune for a bov
You don't tune for BOV with your setup.
fastlanerex 03-16-2007, 05:29 PM no **** you cant tune a bov on a MAF car. I was trying to see what bull**** that other guy was gonna
dingobite 03-16-2007, 05:58 PM temp map its something the tuner will email to you for your cars mods so you can drive slowly to him. Otherwise you can do two things 1-2 do it right or think crap doesnt happen and keep doing what you have planned and blow something up while your doing it.
Ive already blown a motor if i have to limp around for another 5+5 months thats what id do. Or go blow up all the people that that made me wait so ..... long with some huge bomb. /jk
Lol someone stole my turbo off ups i hope it blows something of thiers up.
fastlanerex 03-16-2007, 06:06 PM so your saying running a stage 3 map with a catless uppipe TBE, intake and bov and frontmount is bad?
xtrred 03-16-2007, 06:17 PM Who really knows what the h3ll you're saying?.....
fastlanerex 03-16-2007, 06:26 PM I figure do upipe and front mount at same time since tmic and upipe on top of stage 2 = stage 3
fastlanerex 03-16-2007, 06:27 PM Instead of a tmic I am using a Fmic and was asking if that was safe?
dingobite 03-16-2007, 07:38 PM I cant answer that it sounds bad from my POV after doing tons of reading on this stuff here and other forums.
Detonation by itself means something is very bad for you.
Fred Fredburger 03-16-2007, 07:43 PM That stuff is a joke:lol: The only thing that stuff is good for is ruining sensors.
In addition to whatever sensor damage it may cause, be prepared to buy A LOT of octane booster. When you read on the back that it raises octane by a few points, think POINT TWO (.2) or POINT THREE (.3). So you just went from 93 to 93.2 or 93.3. Not a big help.
If you need to increase the octane in your tank, add toluene (Home Depot/Lowe's/Menards paint department or Sherwin-Williams). Toluene is 114 octane, you can easily get it by the gallon, and makes a MUCH bigger difference when added a gallon or two at a time.
Here's (http://www.elektro.com/~audi/audi/toluene.html) a more detailed article.
dingobite 03-16-2007, 09:56 PM Stage 2 map
TBE
Upipe
stock air filter
anything from this needs to eventually be tuned.
fastlanerex 03-18-2007, 10:20 PM So id be able to baby it with my frontmount until i get it tuned?
