im planning on swapping a JDM Sti Version 6 motor into my 2001 RS. i was wondering how fast would it be stock, how offen do people do this swap, and what are the mods i should start with besides bolt ons? Like what kind of axels should i get when i get the swap, because i know that the RS axels cant withstand the STI engine. and what kind of Brakes should i get the can compensate for the car.

Brakes= 4 pots
stock should be around 210-230 awhp.
leaving it stock should be fast enough.

Stock whp is closer to 280 on good gas. axles are fine, hope you are getting the STi gearbox. If you can drive the car will run 12.5 all day. VF22, turboback and a MBC will get you 11s.

Yeah I've never heard of the axles not being able to handle the power. Even the stock RS tranny can take the power of a version 6 for quite a while before giving up as long as you don't drive like chode. You'll have to run at least 93 octane and even then I would still retune for our gas especially in winter. Ecutek is available for the STI v6's but there are on a couple people that sell and tune it in North America. That would probably be your best bet.

cheers

I've installed and driven one of those swaps, just reiterating but yes stock axles will be fine. Upgrade the clutch, intake/uppipe/exhaust/tune and you have yourself one helluva fast car (and it's topend is absolutely crazy).

However, in terms of legality, you may want to persue a USDM swap. Just makes life easier in the long run.

What's illegal about a ver 6 swap?

technically all jdm swaps are illegal ..

No, they arent. You are free to use any JDM motor, or other foreign motor, as long as it at least fills the equivalent standards in a USDM motor. So if your car came with motor X, which had obdII, x y and z clean air functions, you can replace it with any other motor that fills at least all four of those requirements to the same level or better. So no, there is no "technically" about it.

ya, how else would there be companies that all they do is import jdm engines

Other than the part where no JDM engine produced prior to 2001 had anything resembling OBD-II. You are correct that there are loopholes, like on my OBD-I '95L my '97 EJ20K will be pretty much legal. Or with some v7 STi engines showing OBD-II readiness even though they don't really have OBD-II. But that is more the exception than the rule. But for the OP of this thread with an OBD-II 2.5RS, there is really no "legal" JDM swap...

ps. You might want to look at who you are picking technical fights with here in conversions. Folks here aren't quite as gentle as the NA forum...

A large number of them have a disclaimer on their receipt stating that the engine is legal for off road use only. It's the same thing they do with exhausts, and carbs, and many other speed parts that are technically not street legal...

I like to listen to what Matt says, generally he's right. PMing you about something we talked about a while ago!

hmmm
except for:
changing of catalist from what was installed at the factory -strike 1
there is no ej20 w/ an egr -all the 1.8s and 2.2s? -strike 2
non epa approved ecu -strike 3

just like everything else in america the letter of the law is pushed to the limit and beyond. Just because its done and passes, dosn't mean that in a pinch you can't have the book thrown at you and be taken to the cleaners

this is why the pre 96 cars are so much easier to deal with there are less requirements that an inspector would catch

The v7s might do readiness codes, but I believe you have to run an egt probe as well on that as well.

i have a 2001 with a Ver6 STi RA swap and have no legal issues. this is due to the fact that were the car is registered has no emissions/inspections/they dont care. i am even fully catless and no problems.

check your local emissions laws.
