View Full Version : How to NOT sell a car.
CypherAZ 03-15-2007, 03:32 AM Posting pictures of the STi you are selling at the track.........maybe not a great idea.

pajak 03-15-2007, 05:14 AM Would you rather him lie and say he has never raced/abused it with those mods? I doubt theres alot of stis that havent been abused. Thats why i would never buy a used one.

LOL that sounds like every uti kid that comes in here....
"yeah i have 5k in mods but i have never raced it and i never dog it."
thats when they get the "getthefukouttahere" look on my face....
superblkwrx 03-15-2007, 12:48 PM Lol I saw this the other day. I was just seeing how many are trying to be sold and came across this one.
borkjam 03-15-2007, 02:26 PM Classic.
I give the guy full credit for being honest.
It's good to know there's still some honor in the world...
WgnWheel 03-15-2007, 02:33 PM Actually, that kid(Joe) is extremely nice and extremely fast! I've run with him many times at the track. Dyno-Comp took care of that car, and it was most certainly set up for track. Not sure if it still has all the track stuff in it(seats, harness bar etc). As said, at least they are being honest, though the car has been for sale for a very long time.
AaronB 03-15-2007, 02:36 PM Maybe he was just driving on a very well paved road, near a checkers store?
IDAFC21 03-15-2007, 03:59 PM haha, i laugh evertime i see that add too. That things been up for sale for awhile. But yes, at least hes being honest about it.

Don't forget the helmet.
Not so sure about well paved. Did you watch the NHRA Dragracing a couple of weeks ago. There was a big chunk of the track missing. about 60' off the start line. Pot hole big enough to put your foot in.
mike91401 03-15-2007, 05:19 PM Don't forget the helmet.

They are just adding a new challenge to drag racing... anyone can drive in a straight line, but how many people can drive at full acceleration while swerving around randomly placed pot holes! :)
ScoobyNewbie89 03-15-2007, 05:59 PM jackass ftw
Utah GIMMY 2!!! GIMMY 2 Utah!!!
new_forester 03-15-2007, 06:23 PM Don't forget the helmet.

I used to be part of ASRA as the corner worker coordinator, and the way it was explained to me, Firebird Raceway is leased from Gila Bend Indian community. The lease was up within a few years, and part of the lease agreement between the GIBC and the owner/operator of Firebird was that he would be required to invest in maintainence and upgrades/upkeep of the property during the lease, and he hadn't since he would loose those investments if when the lease ended. Thus the deteriorating track conditions, and lack of upkeep.
Imprezme05 03-15-2007, 07:59 PM Thats funny. Also take the 5 point racing seat belts out of Subaru when you come trade it in. More money out of the trade will come about.
boosted20 03-15-2007, 09:28 PM that guy wouldn't make a good car salesman. honesty is good though. I would rather buy that car from him then buy it used from a dealer.
speedblind 03-16-2007, 02:25 PM I don't see anything wrong with that ad - he drove it on track, has a cool picture, and posted it. Those that wouldn't buy a track-driven car don't want his car anyway. I've never understood the aversion to track time - it's easier on a car than 5 days a week of stop-and-go traffic, especially a car like an STi. Now, if it's a track rat that's been constantly beaten on, then the price should reflect that.
I personally would choose a car that was occasionally tracked over one that the owner claims has been babied its entire life. The track driven car was most likely better maintained than the one that saw only street duty, and the owner probably found and corrected a few weak spots during the car's time on track.
shemoves 03-16-2007, 02:35 PM I think it's a great ad. 23k for an STi with 17k miles on it...and you know it's an honest seller. If he is willing to put a pic of it at the track, I'd imagine he'd be more than forward in telling someone about any other issues he has had with the car. Not only that, but he has a well-sorted mod-list, and was willing to pay the extra cost to take the car to DynoComp...to me that says it's not some ricer kid, but someone who understands the value of 'doing the job right.'
Secondly, it's an STi...these things love the track.
Prolly not the best add to sell a typical DD, but for an STi...bonus points.
Demok 03-16-2007, 02:56 PM props for the nice, expensive exhaust ;) oh and the expnesive tune too ;)
The price/ miles on the car is very good IMO. the fact that the pic is at the track shows honesty, etc.
I bought a used STi... the only used STi in the world that hasn't been abused... or so i thought. then the struts blew, and now the clutch is almost gone, but 04's had problems with the struts & the clutch is a given ;). Honestly for 22k for an 04 with 22k miles on it, i think i got a good deal 6 months ago. PS the struts didn't blow until 6000 miles later (same with the clutch).
WgnWheel 03-16-2007, 03:46 PM he's far from a ricer, he races karts and his father helped finance the sti and do the proper mods and upkeep.
Imprezme05 03-16-2007, 04:01 PM 23k for an STi? With 17k miles on it? hmmmm Honesty is the best policy, good for him. I would run a car fax on it though, which should always be done anyways. Where was this guy when I was shopping for a Subaru last year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!thats a great price
06STi 03-16-2007, 04:39 PM Adult owned. Driven sundays only..
Anyways....... Anyone want to buy mine... Maintained once a week.
speedblind 03-16-2007, 04:55 PM That is a good price. And everything that I'd want to do has pretty much been done. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.
v8eaterWRX 03-16-2007, 10:30 PM I dont understand why people think its stupid for him to post a pic of the car on the track. Looking at his mod list, anyone with a brain stem would know it has spent some time on the track, not like the picture is the only thing that gives that away.....
silver arrow 03-16-2007, 11:06 PM I'd buy it, good price, especially if it comes with those mods. STi's are pretty reliable.
shemoves 03-17-2007, 05:03 AM My buddy called him, sold for 24k last week apparently.
