I want a 2000 2.5rs coupe with the Burn-up 22b wide body kit and the following engine setup.
i want to put in a Cosworth tunned crate motor and cosworth heads, and an upgraded syncro 5sp sti tranny.
can the 2.5rs body handle this motor and trany? and if i put on a turbo giving me about 400 whp will the car basically endure too much abuse to the frame.
in everyones real oppinion am i better off putting this motor in a 03 wrx body???
please help me out, ive owned a 03wrx, a 05 sti and a 06 sti, but for some reason im in love with 22b look.
yes it can .. just fine infact
that said if i had a wide boddied RS i would start with an 06 or 07 sti (wider)drive train swap first, then mod (not impressed by cosworth for the $).. buy a wrecked car swap EVERY thing over then mod till the cows come home 400 on the stock block is nearing the limits but is possible
EM is SOO important starting with a nice reflashed stock ecu will make the car streetable and still make the power you want
thanks, the reaosn i want the cosworth is because i put about 60,000 miles a year of complete abuse, so i want to know that i dont have to worry about my engine going. i aslo want to make this car one of a kind. i put about 15k to 20k in all of my other subies but im looking to drop about 40k into this one.
how much heavier is the sti motor than the 2.5rs motor??

Even if you put every piece off of an STi onto the RS..... The RS will still be lighter!! Only 2 doors!!:D

Send me a 50% deposit of $20,000 for this job and I will call you in a year when it's done. You can pay the balance prior to pick up...
i would still start with an sti swap
the list of advantages is huge
first there is NO 5 speed that will hold 400whp the only thing that would come close is some nasty dog engagement, the case flex is the big proublem
weather you spend 5k on a block or get one for free the tuner has a huge amount of influence on the reliability
are you east coast or west coast?
send me a 19,950 deposit and the car and ill have it done in 6 months :p:banana:  :disco:

If you put 60k miles a year on a car then buying really expensive Cosworth engine bits is not very smart. I mean if you're going to put a lot of miles on a motor you're going to wear it out faster right? IMO a high dollar built STI motor to commute on isn't the best idea. Waste those miles on an OEM motor. It's cheaper. You can prolly buy 3 or 4 STI motors for the price of one Cosworth block.
Oh and instead of a 2.5RS I'd get an L coupe. It's cheaper by about 6 grand.
cheers

I rarely diagree with you my friend, but in this instance I will. Xephyr has been running 400+whp on a 1992 Legacy turbo 5spd gearbox for quite some time now. Yes, it does have a Modena dogbox conversion inside of it, but it's still a 5spd case and it's holding up just fine. But that's Mark and he does drive like an adult, even when he's racing. And he rebuilds his box every 30k mi just to be safe.
And that is one thing to think about with this kind of project. Maintence on something is not cheap. I think Mark spent in excess of $5000 last time he rebuilt the box...
wait i dont really get it.
i had on both my sti's about 310 whp on the stock block, and those motors never had a single problem. doesnt that in theory mean that a cosworth engine can take the same if not way more power and abuse???? and i have seen at least 100 5speed worcked trannys that can handle 400hp???

where .. not on nasioc ...
few people with 205s (and 5 speeds) get to 400whp and the 06 wrxs are blowing up all over the place
the people that are making that kind of power are starting with STIs and thus 6 speeds
if your doing this project right there is no reason to skimp on the tranny ...
we haven't even touched on the r160 and 400whp which also won't hold the power
imho its not worth the effort of trying to band aid a gear box that is pushing its limits at 300 chp on a 600 chp car
simply put if You are after the ultimate impreza the 06+ 6 speed is the way to go
