Inpired by SWIC in this thread:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1183801

Ok, so SWIC knows about the 3 cylinders of fury that the FXT has been running on for the last 2 months and it's finally happening! Just when I was starting to feel like I'd be better off driving a Pontiac Grande Am w/ an aluminum wing and fuzzy dice, a phone call from F.A.T. changed everything. The motor had arrived this morning and was waiting for pics! Yes, yes, it was supposed to be just an STI SB w/ pistons and some work on the rods/bearings/rings the worx but to find out that Robert made it a bored 2.7Liter was the cherry on the ummmm danish!  Here's pics:

The block all machined bored and sexay!!

My personal favorite the JE Pistons ceramic coated lightened and balancedFTW:
http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m201/vsbxt/2.jpg

It should go in this week as planned unless STi_Guy04's car keeps getting all of the attention. Dude if most of our wives had that much attention IB there would be fewer divorces in the U.S!:D

How is your idle? Just curious if it's JE's that have that rough idle/rattling when cold or another brand...

mine are dished, but like a square more and my pistons are also lower compression as well so that is probably the differnace. My idle is a little loud but it goes away when the motor is warm.

Hmmm , not sure. The walls are fairly thick but 2.7 should do the trick. If a 3 liter were to go in, it would have to be an H6.:)

Then i asked for it back and my options where to take my car back with no motor in it (cuz he pulled it out and would not put it back in) Or to Give up my short block and he would finish my car... Isnt that blackmail

Then today I found they Cut off the Nipple to the top of my External wastegate Wow did i get the Shaft again! All in all I`ll never take my car to another performance shop in my Life time! there all shady and you never you what there doing to your 50k automobile

GO FAT!! GO!!

 As for your situation, I think you got shafted by Kingpin so bad that you refused to see that FAT was trying to help you. Let's not turn this into a flame fest but a rational reasonable conversation. I'd watched your car from the day it was dropped off to the day it left as I'm always at the shop learning and watching how our subies work. They spent so much time making repairs to hack jobs, making your KP turbo kit fit, and getting the car running again, that they lost money!!! You were another special case like many of us that are now regular customers and Robert took the time to make sure you left with a sound running, and even tunable car. When I was told what you paid for everything I'd almost felt ripped because it was a smoking deal and out of all the hook ups, you got a sweet one! Don't take this wrong way but look what you came with, and now look what you have. Kingpin and a few other unsavory local vendors would not have done this for you. Sorry you feel otherwise.

Feel free to pm me if you want, I'm not an angry guy.

GO FAT!! GO!!

That Nipple is just a vent for the waste gate and was cut to prevent a VAC/BOOST hose hooked to it, preventing the malfunction of no Waste-gate. If you really want one back, then come by and we'll get one one no big deal. And the reseason your car sat for three weeks is because you needed to pay for it to be put back together. As soon as you paid (sat for 2 weeks until this), then took a week to finish other paying customers cars and got your car back together and running on King Pins 30R kit in 3 days. Just look at your receipt and you will see that we covered ~$1,700 worth of labor/parts. I would say that takes care of a Blown 2.5L Block core that you think you must have to be happy. Try to sell that on these forums and you'll only get maybe $150-200, MAYBE!!!! Also you called and asked for your old clutch back, if you want it, come get it and we'll get that nipple back and installed for you man. You don't need to get on here and bash FAT's name cause for every action (or lack there of (paying)) there is a equal action (Car done in about a week, AGAIN!!!!!). If you still think you got missed treated, come talk to Robert or Chris and we'll figure something out.

Nothing was discussed about keeping old (blown) motor prior to all repairs done. STi_Guy04 showed up a couple of days before paying for KP kit install asking about old motor. Which was after he had car for about 3 weeks for break-in (new built 2.5L he provided) on a TDO4 kit@7psi (provided by FAT).

dude is still sore about the hack job KP did and the sick amount of cash blown therin . its a case of ''you cant see the forest from the trees '' i think . NOBODY else in the valley would even touch this car , especially at the price FAT did it . paying customers will tell you FAT is the best around . and as for time frames , they put that bucket in front of other serious projects that really should have takin precedence over such a car. like myself , i paid upfront and my car is going to be wicked. no more bashing of the fat name would be great . oh ya , and UTI kids really have no place bashing such a fine shop . he could only wish to know what the fat crew does. DONE.

Alright. This whole thing has been goin on for too long . At no point in time was sti_guy04 wronged . And what i really cant understand is that when this guy left the shop (i was there) he was all like '' oh man thanks so much , it looks good (if thats possible for KPkit) , i really appreciate it yadda yadda'' . We even had to modify his kit to accept a freakin battery! So we curved another cost there too really. could've just said that the battery didnt fit and you need to buy a smaller one . But we made it right , as per usual. He was smiling when he left , where did the drama come from ? Anyway this is virgils string here and this dont belong here , so man , like chris said , we can put that nip back on or whatever . but ill tell you right now , you got off easy man . thats a fact . first of all the fact that the car being an ex kingpin car should be a hinter that we had our hands full with this project just by itself.. i feel that we did everything in our power to satify you.. and the people that posted on this matter should be a sign that im not the only one that thinks so..there was countless hours of cutting and fabbing parts to make everything fit AND WORK RIGHT FOR ONCE not to mention comping you for parts and labor for your blown shortblock that you claim we stole... your car sat for 3 weeks because you didnt come up with all the funds so if you have any prablems at all please give us a call and we are more then happy to make a new reciept and charge you for the things that we should of charged you for so you can get that stuff back if you desire..

i only pump shell. its funny to hear people say they wont use it. knock on wood, but never had detonation with it. mynes actually prefers you pump shell before getting on the dyno bc they see less detonation with it over other gas. (not speaking for mynes current opinion as a whole, but that is what a few people working there told me)

Saw the AVO450 yesterday, and it looks veddy nice. The FXT will be rocking the sad stock injectors so even with a tune this turbo won't be hitting the sweet spot but it's a goal to save up for and it's prolly better that way since the motor will need a legthy break-in anyway. I'm thinking she'll be buttoned up some time next week. :)

VSB XT
04-09-2007, 09:17 PM
Well one more delay squeezed into the FXT project today. It looks like the AVO 450 has a nasty crack in the exhaust housing so until I can find another one, the beast remains crippled. It's a bummer for Robert because he's trying to get her back on the road ASAP and little quirks keep finding their way in. TBC....:(

If they can only tune a car on Shell gas, then why tune at all? Policies like that will hurt their business and put other cars at risk. You should be able to safely tune a car based on whatever gas is in there as long as it's a top tier station and running the correct octane.

Not my problem ...I know they tune the sheit out of the Evo no one in this state even comes close to putting down there numbers on dynos or 1/4 mile times so it must be working over there at Evoland(Mynes):D

i truly dont think mynes is gonna have a problem with business because of the gas they prefer...i think they have proven themselves time and time again... they obviously know there ish... If they feel that shell gas provides a reduced chance for detonation, why not push to use that, it only benefits the consumer. They are protecting you and your asset. Mynes and any other tuner for that matter makes you sign a waiver that legal does not hold them responsible for anything that might happen to your car when in there hands. So I think I’ll stick with a tank of Shell next time im there. :D

Well due to many difficulties trying to get this AVO450 exhaust housing in a pinch, it looks like we've sourced an 18G instead. True it may not be as huge as the AVO but for running pump 91 on Ecutek everyday, the 18G will be perfect for daily driving needs.

Hey J! Yeah, the forester is on hold at the moment. WIfes grandfather backed into her car on Thursday so now we have to come up w/ $500 for the deductable on our insurance to fix it. Went to Caliente and picked up the PE850's(side feeds) yesterday for a steal! It hits as quick as dare I say the TD04 and yes I'm serious it spools really really quick prolly due to the slight increase in displacement :alien: . Squeezed in an appointment for a tune w/ Dynocomp on Monday so the injectors will have to wait till then as the 850's will prolly have this thing drowning in fuel w/ anything past 5k rpms. It's so awesome that it's finally coming together, and soon it will be time for "operation bling shoe box" to take place when everything under the hood is complete. :D Woo Hooo!

For reasons of scheduling conflict I'm going w/ Rich at Dynocomp. Still respect Clark very much as a tuner but he's pretty slammed these days w/ dyno days etc. Plus, Robert of FAT wanted Rich originaly to do the tune and see what it does on Dynocomps dyno etc. so since he took the time to special build this motor it's only fair we go that route for now. Still may have Clark do some tinkering later on if an ewg and water injection and koyo radiator make it on board before summers end. :)

Congrats on getting the injectors, i am interested to see how much the forester can put down with that 2.7L motor in it!Yes, very curious what numbers it will be w/ that turbo...I'd guess 300whp if I'm lucky on 91 of course it could be 315whp on a dynojet but oh man the spool up and mid-top end is what I'm really looking forward to. That turbo is so responsive already!

So here it is, and I'm way happy with this and Rich put a lot of time into the tune as we had some boost control issues. He did a few tweaks here and there and got it running real nice. Oh and keep in mind it was 96-98F in there.

And take a look at the boost curve, or should I say consistant boost across redline w/out so much curve.

The drivability of this car is now amazing! No fumbling, stumbling, or jerking and it just drives clean. The power feels silky on the highway and violent from a stop. Called Robert right away tonight to let him know how she runs now and how this motor spools this turbo and holds it. Talked to Rich a little bit about other supporting mods for this turbo and a CAI, a 3'' midpipe, w/ possibly a nice header would really bring things to life in the near future. I'm curious what this would do on a dynojet now. :D

Dang your AC broke? What broke?Well after checking fuses, relays, a/c lines etc. I neglected to check the one thing that really matters....The Belt! That's right, it snapped in two peices and could have easily went behind the timing belt and disaster almost had me again.

She's starting to look like Karmen Electra, you know, still kinda hot and prolly great in the sac but weathered w/out needed surgery to peice all the good stuff back together. :p

Nice hrs power ,but the torque looks really low and that turbo took forever to spool...that turbo on a 2.7 should have spooled alot sooner,Ive seen 30R spool faster on 2.5 blocks why so late did you have hime set it this way???

Here's the latest modlist. Yeah it really doesn't feel laggy if that's what's on your minds, maybe due to the RA tranny? But, then again it's not the TD04 comparison I was going for before the tune either. :D I did mention to Rich that I'm usually driving on the freeway or hwy these days so he may have catered to my driving habits as well. :alien:

Here's the latest contributing mod list w/ Ecutek:
Engine:F.A.T 2.7L Shortblock w/ JE pistons(ceramic coated) ACL bearings, Total seal Rings,(some brand of) gold magnetic oil drain plug, F.A.T oil cooler mod, FP18G ceramic coated, PE850's injectors, Perrin shortram, Ebay turbo inlet, B&B Downpipe/Upipe, FAT catback, FAT TGV deletes, custom fmic and PWR couplers w/ custom coolant overflow, HKS SSQ BOV, Walbro FP, Blingy weapon R catch can, Lineage ground wires, NGK one step colder plugs, AP oil cap, relocated coolant lines from intake manifold(reduces heat), and Carbon fiber alt/belt cover, and Odyssey lightweight battery.

this weekend i dynoed my car with the low compression pistons and wrx heads with sti cams, and no AVCS and 2.5 shortblock. It spools my sr55 almost exactly the same as ur 2.7. i would expect your 18g to spool much faster than my car.

Pretty much.. Something is off here, no doubt about it.. If i hadn't saw a boost plot i would think your boost was bleeding off. Was your map sensor agreeing with the dyno boost logs?

I mean on my 2.0 with a green i was hitting 23psi at like 4k IIRC. That is like a 42r on a 2.5ltr. You don't make 19psi till after 5k.. I would just mabe give it a once over..

Later bro,

Yeah, maybe later I'll run it by Rich and see what he thinks. I'm in a honeymoon period right now and just in love w/ the tune as is,so not too concerned yet. Might wait for another reflash w/ some headers, cai, and a midpipe though to yield a smidge more wtq.
