More than likely it is Carbon deposits dislodging from you piston and Combustion chamber getting burned upp and blown out the exhaust.
Waht color is it though?

it's either that or just soot from the exhaust...we have this problem with preludes...people think their cars are blowing up and it's just soot fromt eh exhaust system.

I believe grey means a tiny bit rich. My car now does the same thing (same color) since I had the Auto TC2 installed using stock intake and headers.
Black would mean overly rich.
Blue/white is clean running car or some oil???? I don't remember that one.

I thought light colored (i.e. white or grey) meant you are running lean, whereas thick, dark black fumes meant running rich.
I'm just wonderin', i could be wrong.

white - condensation in the exhaust burning off.
gray - burning coolant (bad valve guides, cracked heads).
blue - burning oil (bad valve seals, worn piston rings).
black - too rich.

Bingo! That stupid 3.8 Ford is the worst engine ever made. My problem wasn't detonation though.
The problem is that Ford put aluminum heads on an iron block and put regular iron to iron gaskets on there. We all know that aluminum and iron expand at different rates when heated. Well the gaskets they used didn't give the heads and the block enough freedom to do what they wanted to do and after thousands of expansions and contractions, the 3.8L gaskets just couldn;t take it any more. morons at Ford I tell ya'

True, true. You get white smoke when you blow a head gasket. You also get white smoke in the morning when it's cold and the humidity is high.
