View Full Version : 02 WRX vs. 94 Z28
Wadester19 03-20-2007, 07:00 PM My buddy seems to think that his Z28 is the fastest thing alive. He wants to go up against me and I was just wondering how close of a race it would be for 0-60 and 1/4 mile. His Z28 is stock with the LT1 other then a pro 5.0 shifter and some kind of stage 2 clutch. My WRX has TurboXS TI catless TBE, cobb SF intake and tein H techs not protuned yet. They are both manual. I will almost guarantee I can drive better because it is his first manual he bought a few months back and I have been driving manual for 5 yrs.
So do you think he would stomp me like he believes? I had a 93 Trans Am before my WRX and I think it would be pretty close but maybe that's just me.
TAPOUT 03-20-2007, 07:06 PM His car should run somewhere around 13.2 for the 1/4. They were actually very quick stock.
wrxwhat 03-20-2007, 07:18 PM 13.2 stock with an LT1... LOL no.
He has a high 13 second @ 100mph car.
06BlackSTIwith550WHP 03-20-2007, 07:24 PM he has a stock car with an aftermarket clutch???something smells fishy

Yea I didn't think that sound right because I ran a 14 flat with my Trans Am and everyone said that it wasn't bad.
What is a WRX with catless TBE suppose to run if it has a decent driver??
Wadester19 03-20-2007, 07:27 PM he has a stock car with an aftermarket clutch???something smells fishy
Well he really didn't have a clutch when he bought it . You had to let the clutch out completely before it would even think about grabbing. So he figured he would do an aftermarket clutch for all the supposed mods he will be doing.
99subi 03-20-2007, 07:40 PM My friend has a 94 z/28 as well, i am stage 2, i race him and pull about 2 cars then call it qwits, since your not stage 2 you wil prolly lose. My friend has slp catbaxck exhuast and suspension crap, he ran a 14.0 at the track, i ran 13.8
gotti 03-20-2007, 07:51 PM would you race him at the track or on the street?.....if you can launch well you will have him....just get a tune anyway....
i made a hundred bucks off a guy with a ram air trans am that said something about my car being a little import...back when my car was stock....great launch and stayed multiple cars ahead of him to over 100

I'm not sure where we will race...if the weather warms up then at the track, if not then on a "closed road" when we both happen to be there at the same time
El Gato 03-20-2007, 09:35 PM Get at least a VF39 AND a tune. The challenge smells fishy all right.
kcook 03-20-2007, 09:37 PM whatever he says , he has nitrous... those sneaky domestic owners
PaulRex 03-20-2007, 09:40 PM Ive raced an LT1 firebird with full exhuast, and intake and im sure some other mods he didnt tell me, but we were neck and neck on the highway. It was a really really good race back when I had my stock turbo/original motor wrx. at that time I was trapping around 105, but I would hang with cars that trap 108-109mph from a roll for whatever reason and that firebird was definatly trapping between 105-109mph since we were so close.
if the car your racing has head/cam work or nitrous who knows how fast it is?
blubaru2002 03-20-2007, 09:45 PM get a tune and you'll stomp the crap outta him...depending on how good of a driver you are.
im a tuned stg 2 and i kick the crap outta ws6 transams with exhaust work. course that was street racing from a stop.
i cant imagine you'd lose to a stock mullet head race car. atleast after you get a tune.

One of my other buddies drives an STI and he has 2 VF39's being sent out for work and port and polished and he's selling me one so by the end of summer it will be on hopefully.
whatever he says , he has nitrous... those sneaky domestic owners
haha no nitrous in this race, he told me he was goin to buy it but I knocked some sense into him :)

has none of the above, so it should be a pretty close race. He will have head/cam work by the end of summer and I will have the VF39 on with protune so that race will be even better.
Homemade WRX 03-21-2007, 11:19 AM whatever he says , he has nitrous... those sneaky domestic owners
ding ding ding...buy a vf39 and slap it on before the race
tachrev 03-21-2007, 12:41 PM I race an SS LT1 Camaro with headers/open exhaust/intake/LT1 Hot Cam when my car was all stock.
I pulled about 2 cars on him at launch, then he drove by me around the middle of 3rd.
The Camaro had run a *best* of 12.9 though, probably running mid 13's that night.
There were no times on that race.
If it really is stock, then the best run I've seen out of one was a 13.80. That was an automatic.
My guess is he'll spin a lot and have to play catchup, it you don't bog the launch.
Then all that matters is if he has the power to reel you in.
VIR EURORALLY 03-21-2007, 01:39 PM His car should run somewhere around 13.2 for the 1/4. They were actually very quick stock.
Maybe if it were an SS. Still the fastest that I had seen was a '01 Camaro RS that had an LS-1 Corvette motor swap, ecu,Long tube headers, ported heads and cams. The newer Camaros weren't all that big of a hit around here for building up.
deblas66 03-21-2007, 01:50 PM Driver's race
From a dig, if you can launch, you should win.
From a roll, toss up
Bluestreak2006 03-21-2007, 01:54 PM If the guy w/ the Z28 has very little experience w/ a manual at all you should have no problem at the track. He will end up spinning the tires too much. And if you launch well he will just dig deeper into the throttle and end up running horribly. In my early track years I had a 5.0 Rustang 5spd and I remember a motorswapped Civic that just shot off the line. I already had wheel spin but getting outrun by a civic I smashed the gas and had one of the worst passes ever. The typical "American Muscle Guy" will just be to full of themselves and be totally shocked at your launch. What I'm getting outrun by a 4cylinder!!!Gotta love the AWD.
And what the other guys said. Swap the turbo w/o telling him and then really smoke his a$$. Good luck.
AirDogg2599 03-21-2007, 01:56 PM i ran a 5.7 GTO at the track.....i ran a 13.6 and the GTO ran a 13.9. (mods: Cobb Stage 2.5 (VF30)OTS map, GTO: intake and exhaust). on the way home the same GTO wanted to do it from a roll (40mph) i got about two car lengths from him until ~100.
scby rex 03-21-2007, 03:22 PM hey its all in the launch, 5500 rpm then "slip" it out fast. Doing that on 20psi street tires at the track w/ dms coilovers netted me a 1.7 60 ft. mods were tbe no cats and a manual boost controler and a old turbo xs piggyback. Raced numerous F bodies on that set up. From a stop they cant touch it.
ccevoix 03-22-2007, 08:31 PM we have a closed road we will be running on and we will be running from a dig and a roll about 30-40mph. So we will just have to see what happens :D

WolfInSheepsCLothing 03-23-2007, 12:34 AM vf-39+ race gas map. i raced a 98+ camaro SS on 91, was dead even until the end of 3rd, then he started pullin, got about half a car ahead...you might beat him in the 1/8 mile with a good launch, but the stock turbo doesn't have enough top-end to pull you ahead once you hit 3rd. sorry

Going from a roll may be the win for him.. He has more torque and since he already has the traction he will just outpower you .. race from a stop, launch hard and he wont be able to catch up because he is most likely spinning his tires too much in excitment..
Keep it safe none-the-less

mannslayer 03-23-2007, 10:47 PM just go out and run him, who cares if you lose...
