Howdy boys and girls, Reading what everyone wrote about the other day. My input is that I was told that by a subaru mech that my99 only requires one air filter and that i don't need the filter that is located in the"black box", does anyone know diff? and if so what would be the FRAM part#.

I don't know what the part # is but my car came with only one filter and that is the one in the airbox attached to the MAF. The other box near the TB has a spacer in it and no filter. A lot of '99's came that way.

99...what an oddball year...anyhow...no you don't need the one in the black box...god only knows why they put it there, i almost wonder if those were the late model year 99's and they had already started shipping the MY00 air boxes and mistakenly installed them in the cars....ah well, in any case 1 filter is enough...provided you change it once in a while.

You don't need a filter in the backbox, but if you do one
Amsoil - The front air filter is a TS74 and the rear filter is a TS129
K&N - The front filter is a 33-2075 and the rear filter is a 33-2154
