Note: I have verified that the modified IGN values on my map are not the same as the ones shown in above logfiles. They tend to be 2-3 deg lower than my map. The stock ECU timing values are all whacked. :huh: I don't show any knock to give reason for the fluctuation in timing. Also, I just noticed that the ECU is going in and out as far as the boost values are concerned, even though load sites are well above 30%....

When the car is in vacuum, there doesn't seem to be a problem:

Well just some further observations here, it seems you need to address the boost issue first IMHO. The fluctuation in boost could be impacting these timing observations. Boost pressure drives load site which in turn drives timing columns within your map. Also what’s up with your TPS? It several instances you’re positive boost pressure (10+) yet only at 30TPS. In fact throughout these logs you only see half throttle (50% TPS) once… Or does this condition only occur under light boost/throttle and thats what you're trying to show?

Also, you sure you don’t have a mechanical issue impacting the boost pressure which could be completely skewing these logs? Pre-turbo (i.e. header/manifold) exhaust leaks tend to look like this. Where you can reach target boost sometimes yet are constantly bleeding off exhaust gases that in-turn is significantly fluctuating boost pressure.

More questions then answers, but maybe it will help...

Thanks for your input...you've raised some good questions..but, the reason I guess I went for timing as the problem is because if you look at the very first log segment, the boost stays consistent while the timing goes down to 12.4, and stays that way. But then, it gets worse from there.

Also what’s up with your TPS? It several instances you’re positive boost pressure (10+) yet only at 30TPS The boost values are the same across the board, not to mention a 15lb wastegate spring. I believe it's just in it's prime spool-up region. The reason you don't see it go over 50% (more importantly higher rpm) is that I'm breaking in a new motor. It's actually close to being "broke in," and I just starting the tuning process.

I found it interesting that as I look over a few more (and newer) logs, the retarded (literally) timing starts to occur at 13 psi every time.

I am wondering one of two things; I have read that in some slightly older subarus if the knock sensor is too sensitive or goes bad it can confuse the computer due to excessive "noise" even if it doesn't throw a code. I don't know if that can be the case on an 02 WRX.

Another thing I am considering is that I just replaced a bad coil pack, and maybe another one is weakening...not sure.

I was hoping it would get more responses in that forum, but not much so far.

Tonight I pulled my MAF harness connector and took a look at it- it's been kinda dicked for awhile but it seemed to have been making contact with the tabs- but I wasn't sure, so I cut the connector and put some tab connectors (for lack of a better word) on the harnes wires and connected them to the sensor.

The car seems to pull really hard and I did not experience any knock, but I still haven't turned up the boost....unfortunately I didn't have a laptop availible to log any data...so it's just a matter of time until I can prove one way or another.

bump as well! Im having a similar issues too

02 WRX stage 4 Pulls timing HARD at full boost. no knock as well....

I wish I could give you more conclusive evidence, but I am not totally sure that I have the problem fixed (car has been down for some time). A large part of the problem was my silicone inlet was collapsing. I put a couple hose clamps on it to solidify the walls some and it made worlds of difference. After that, my timing numbers were at least within a degree or two (without knock) of what was valued in my utec. My car has been an electrical nightmare since I first owned it. Gremlins ftl :diaf:

my problem was in crank and cam position sensors, Utec reads wrong revs and pulls timing
look at the log - rpms are not raising - they jumping

I've seen the jumping before, wasn't sure if it was just the UTEC logging inadequately....what did you do to fix your issue?
