i am very close to purchasing a 2002 wrx, but i have heard something that scared me a little. one of my friends told me that the wrx's have been having trouble with the engine mounts, due to the fact that it has a boxer style engine? is this just a false rumor, or can any verify this? thanx to all those who respond.

If they had trouble because of the boxer style engine, Subaru would have been screwed for 20+ years.

People complain about all kinds of minor faults on these forums (paint, windshield, etc.). It's true the engine has a characteristic rough 'boxer' idle, but I don't recall ever reading a post about it being hard on engine mounts or causing their failure.

Oh boy I sure hope not. I have been luanching pretty hard lately now that I have the Unichip. Our Outback is 1 1/2 years old and no problems here.

Autoweek had a right side motor mount come loose on their long-term WRX. Hence, motor mount problems. Buy the car! The most fun at the right $$$$$$$$. You're gonna love it!!!

Right side? Doesn't the motor torque to the right side? If anything, I would think the left would come loose.

No problems here, at 19040 miles and *ahem* several hard launches.
They must have moved the power steering hose tightener over to motor mount duty
