I recently started to smell burning oil from my engine bay and Subaru told me it was my driver side axle seal that needs replacement ( looks like chunk grey pea soup:huh: ). I plan to do it myself since I have read that it`s pretty easy and one person can do it. However I only find DIY for STI`s ( I couldn`t find it for 02 and I lost my service manual CD)

1.) Do you need to replace the spring as well? none of the threads clarified the need but most stated the need for it.
2.)I bought oil seal D/R SFT MT PRT # 28096AC010 and subaru guy told me I needed two seals?:confused: ???
3.) Do I need spring pin prt# 905190005???
4.) What trans oil do you recommend to use???

FSM says to replace the spring pins. Subaru recommends a GL-5 75w90 oil, but I've been using the Scotty Cocktail and really like it.

Where'd you find that Part Number for the spring pin? I've been trying to locate part numbers but can't find them anywhere.
