12,500 miles. $16.5K. Comes with a warranty - it is a turned in lease. She'll be driving it. No, she doesn't need an XT, she does need a reliable daily driver with some room. The 2004 Jetta that she drives now is a dog with a major flea infestation.

I've been car shopping with her in the past and frankly, I usually end up pulling my hair out after about 3 hours of looking because of her indecisiveness. I just want to drive her to the dealer and PRAY that she buys it.

Is the Forester X decent?

Last time we went, they had a nice XT, but she ummed and ahhed so much that I almost broke down and wept.

 Have you met my wife?

Anyway, I'm going to do what I should have done before starting the thread...I'm going to check the Forester forum!

Much better than posting in OT. Although I would think you're more likely to get unbiased opinions here.

Forester X is just the regular 2.5, but you probably knew that. My s/o just brought home a 07 "2.5i" as a loaner while her 02 "L" is in the shop, we were thoroughly unimpressed in five years worth of "progress" in the model.

If you're looking for buying advice I'd recommend www.subaruforester.org rather than this place; that's where all of us Forester folks hang out. It can get pretty dead in here at times.

How could you NOT need an XT?!? We got the wife an xt, and she didn't want the extra power at first, but now she says she wouldn't get anything else. She LOVES the car, and the ability to merge into traffic easier (thanks to the extra horsepower). Plus, the xt SHOULD hold it's value better. The only negative is the higher gas prices (premium vs. regular), but you can't have EVERYTHING...

I'd say get the X if you want, but that seems a bit high $$$ for a 2004. I've seen a bunch of 2005 lease returns for the same price if I remember correctly...

Doesn't seem too high to me for a car with only 12.5k miles, especially here in CA.

I disagree. Despite the low miles, it is three model years old, right now until the end of the month SOA is offering a $2k rebate on the 2007 2.5 (non turbo) Foresters, which should in turn calculate out to a purchase price in the $19-20k range with some hard bargaining.

Hmm... If I use the vehicle appraiser on edmunds.com for an 04 F-X with 12.5k miles (using my ZIP code), it comes up with a dealer retail price of $16,269. $17,089 if it's certified used.

So I'd say it's within the range.

Not to be argumentative, but are you telling me you would buy a "certified used" three-year old car with an unknown history, vs. a brand-new one with a full factory warranty, just to save $3k ? I don't see the value proposition.

Also keep in mind that you can also get 1.9% financing on top of the rebate, in our area, used-car financing is rarely so generous.

Not saying that it makes sense... just that the prices for used Subies here in CA are rather inflated. And yes, I'd probably buy new if faced with the choice.

if you can get the 1.9% in ADDITION to the rebate, then it is a great deal. However, insurance SHOULD be cheaper on the older car. It's all just a wash in the end, unless you ship a jdm forester sti over here. THEN you've got a winner for the wife!!!!!

Well, she actually bought a Subaru! But not the used Forester. She got a new Outback Sport with a big stereo and alloy wheels and some other stuff on it. I just went with her for moral support (and to give her a check for half the down). But, it's her car, she'll be driving it and making the payments. I think that she paid $17300 + about 11% in taxes and fees, so about $19.5K transaction price.

Drove it home and the airbag sensor or one of the airbags failed.

I might treat the car to a window tint and/or a sportier exhaust. I have a Stromung on the WRX, and we both like the sound. I assume they make one for her model.
