Aaron'z 2.5RS 03-29-2007, 08:42 AM You "can" use a LOC (line output converter) I don't like them personaly, as i've never had any luck with them. A company named Navone Engineering (autosound2000.com) is probly the only place i would buy one from IMHO. Over all you would be better off with a aftermarket HU, for adjustibality and features, but that is your baby... Cheers PhatBoyG 03-29-2007, 11:29 AM I plan on pulling it out, cracking it open, and finding the signals before the amplifier IC. If it looks doable, I may put a preamp output stage (buffered if it isn't already) on the stock deck and compare it to what I bought to fill the hole during my research. If it has even close to the same sound quality, the aftermarket unit will go on ebay and I'll switch back to the stocker for lower risk of theft. I've built plenty of amplifiers and am familiar with electronics, so I'm fairly hopeful that it will work out. ScubaruImpreza05 03-29-2007, 11:39 AM ^^ +5 for you then. I believe many skilled people used to actually solder on a connection for their iPods in the 'output stage' of their old Subaru Hu's, using the internals of a tape deck insert. If I knew how to solder microboards like that, I'd have tv's in dash by now  ~Levi Aaron'z 2.5RS 03-29-2007, 12:27 PM Soldering on even surface mount gear isn't "that" hard, you just need a fine tip and some practice... a magnifying glass helps to... I've replaced many SM IC's in my time, getting them off with the exceptionally strange surface mount IC 'heat gun" removal took is the hard part... not lifting traces that is... I've done 52pin IIRC main IC in Hu's before with great results, you gotta use liquid flux and be real carefull... |
