Driving details:
I drive the car moderately. I ALWAYS let her warm-up. ~3k RPM shifts when the she's cold and ~4k RPM shifts when she's warm.
Car averages two 7-mile city trips on weekdays and random highway trips through the month.

I tracked the car twice with five 20 minute sessions. (2 x 5 x 20 = 200 minutes)
I also went for a few spirited drives...

This oil went through the tough (sarcasm) Bay Area winter. Temeperatures were mostly in the 40s ºF to 70s ºF.

Personal Comments:
As Blackstone mentioned, the probable cause for the high copper is from the track. The copper coupled with 1.5 qts of make-up oil tells me to use a thicker oil.
The previous sample of Mobil 1 10w-30 looked fantastic and I believe that GC would be on par if not for the much harder driving.
I still have GC in the car, but I'm looking into other oils now. (Delvac 1 comes to mind.)

Current UOA:

OIL FILTER: Subaru OEM Tokyo Roki - 15208AA100
AIR FILTER: Subaru OEM - 16546 AA020

EQUIPMENT MAKE: Subaru OIL USE INTERVAL: 4,100 Miles
EQUIPMENT MODEL: 2.0L Turbo OIL TYPE & GRADE: Castrol Syntec GREEN 0W/30 (Gas)
FUEL TYPE: Gasoline (Unleaded) MAKE-UP OIL ADDED: 1.5 qts

Copper increased in this sample. Generally this wear metal comes from a brass/bronze
part, such as a bushing but in your case it may be from your turbo. We suggest this because of the
track days you mentioned. We have a feeling that you could probably hear your turbo whining all the
way around the track. I like the way mine sounds and I'm sure you do too. Check back in another 4K
miles to monitor. We think with no track days on the oil your copper should improve. No harmful
contaminants were found. The TBN read 6.3, which shows lots of active additive left.

Copper isn't that high. But if the M1 10w30 works better, why not go back to that? Maybe a 0w40 or a 5w40...

Does the GC usually have that little moly and boron?

With M1, the car wasn't driven nearly as hard. I'm only guessing, but I believe the UOA would have been comparable to GC under the same conditions.

Yes and Yes. GC is higher on the Magnesium and Calcium. Different additives, but it gets the job done.

I'd love to see how the M1 10W-30 holds up to a couple of track days!...it would probably become like water.

I'm guessing the track days caused the 1.5 qts oil consumption with the GC? What kind of air filter are you using? It looks like silicon could be a tad lower, but it's not bad at all.

I wonder what kind of car that Blackstone car drives...my guess is a 911 turbo.

I just went to the GC last oil change, so far no oil useage issues with almost 80k miles on the car.

If you switch to Delvac 1, it may shear to a 30 weight. I say that from looking at the UOA's of a faithful M1 5W40 Turbo Diesel user on subaruforester.org (FXT).

His M1 Turbo Diesel usually shears to a 30 weight at around 4-5k miles. Completely stock, no track and he his in FL. That's quite a bit of make-up oil though for GC. Maybe you want to go with ester route (new Motul X-Lite 0W30 or RL). Although that would be pricier!

I'm itching to try Delvac 1 for the same reason as using GC. . . . Hype! And the fact that they have a solid history.

In no particular order, Motul, Redline, Amsoil would be my next choices.

Sure it may be more expensive, but I look at it this way: if spending an extra $10-$15 for oil extends my OCI AND produces good UOAs, it's worth it. An extra 1K in my OCI is an extra month of NOT doing maintenance.

I enjoy working on the car, but not having a garage makes even simple tasks annoying. Especially in the WINTER!
