I have an '02 TS (with AT) that I recently got used, and it has a rattle that occurs just above idle (it's somewhere around 800-900rpm). I think I've narrowed it down to coming from the door, the left-hand side of the dash / steering assembly, or something in between. I'm pretty sure it's not the VIN rattle, because it sounds like it's coming from below the dash.

It's a relatively hollow sounding rattle, so I think it involves plastic (it's not a grinding, tapping, or knocking from the engine). It will occur in park or while driving at slow speeds, and is independent of wheel speed.

So my questions are:
1) Do I need to worry about my engine having a weak mount or a bad bearing? I'm pretty sure the noise is from the passenger compartment, but it's correlation with the engine speed has me worried. If not, then...

2) Any suggestions on where to start hunting? I've read about speaker rattle, and I think that's possible, but most of the threads indicated that was at high volume.

Have you stuck your hand up in the dash and tried moving anything yet? if not get diggin... could be any combination of wires or a connector, in the kickpanel or in the door panel...

First thing i would do is start diggin in the dash, get it buzzin and start diggin...
