View Full Version : Just another guy running his wagon in NASA TT

Thought it was time to introduce myself in these forums. I worked my way up through the HPDE levels last year with NASA Rocky Mountain, and was granted a Time Trials licence a couple weeks ago for our first event at PMI. I managed second in TTC both days, lapping faster than some of the TTB cars. I'm driving an PSM '02 wagon with the following mods
Hankook Z211s 225/50/16
Koni cartridges
Whiteline "Control" springs
Noltec camber/castor plates
Perrin rear subframe lock, diff bushings
Cobb adjustable sways
Kartboy endlinks
front strut brace
Sparco Pro 2000
FIA 6 point harness
PnPd coated manifolds
Grimmspeed crossover
UP, DP, 3" N1 exhaust
PDXtuning race gas maps
Godspeed TMIC, blah blah, blah
I am having a ball preparing the car, doing home fabbed brake ducts, front splitter etc., but really enjoying driving flat-out the most. I could go on and on about how perfect a track car the wagon is, being able to haul a circus-load of tires, tools, lawn furniture, coolers etc.... but being able to put down better lap times than the Porsches and Corvettes in a station wagon is really what it's all about.

I will eventually cage the car to run Performance Touring, with my sights set on the USTCC. I hope to join the Locks and Gary Sheehan in campaigning Subarus in road racing. I have had the good fortune to secure a few sponsors, please visit them at www.paradisepower.net (http://www.paradisepower.net) and www.privatelabelselect.com (http://www.privatelabelselect.com), I am also sponsored by a little shop here in Taos, N.M. Lisa's Import Performance Service and a packing and shipping place, Jack-Wrap-It. WRXtuners.com sponsors me too, which is where I post all of my race weekend write-ups and such. I wouldn't be able to pursue this highly addictive hobby without sponsors, as I am a single dad with an 11 year old with the sport of hockey to keep her busy. Any angles on securing parts sponsorships would be most appreciated.
For any of you aspiring to get some on track experience, I can't say enough about the NASA organization. Our regional directors, instructors, racers track workers are a great bunch of people, and the HPDE/TT/W2W program is a perfect way to get into motorsports.

I guess that's enough spew for a first post. Cheers

Welcome!

Hockey! An excellent pursuit! My whole family plays in-line. In fact I met my wife playing hockey. She was an excellent goalie for a local women's Tournament traveling team.

When we get around to kids, my first may be getting a kart at age 6, but it'll have skates at age 3 :).

Thanks for keying in on the important stuff ! My daughter is a netminder, playing with our local squirt boys and a girls comp league. She just got back from a regional U14 tournament where she put up 2 shut-outs. I'm a very proud father and coach, oh.....and I like to drive very fast :p

Those home fabbed brake ducts look pretty trick. You should give us more details on those.

I support ya man! Need more wagons out there on the track! I run Nasa tt and time attacks with mine, as well!

And to keep the interest, here's my friends wagon that also runs with Nasa. People think it's great seeing the wagons out there.

I followed BigSky's lead, mine are chronicled here

I just put on a lip and splitter, using up the last of my mod points while staying in TTC. I would post pics but can't do that here. Is that a privelege that comes with a certain # of posts or what ?

Cool, thank you. I see SWIC. Do you run with NASA AZ region ? I'm in N.M. but far north enough that the Colo events are the closest. We (NASA RM)will have an event this year in Albuquerque, Oct. at Sandia. Here's a link to see my aero tweaks

When do I get to post attachments anyway ??

Yes, I run with the AZ region. NASA is now run by Club Racing AZ here, so our events have been huge! And we have 13 events for 2007. We're also the only NASA region *i know of* that is also running a true Time Attack series, aside from Time Trials. A group of us usually make it out to Arroyo Seco in May for track mayhem and fireworks.:)

I would like to go run Arroyo Seco again, do you go on their ASR sports car days, or do you have a day reserved ? Please keep me posted, that's a fun track !

I take 2 mod points for TT or PT for my front lip which include a belly tray to the front axle (no extra points) I wondering if a belly tray is a good idea for my car, I already have a pattern, so the work is almost done for it. What do you guys think ? Will the tray improve aero and stability, or is it just something else to remove when I need to work on the car ? There's a pic link with my home-made splitter attached earlier in this thread, it came right off (too low for driving here in the third world) so I would just be making it into a belly tray to front of the lip, no extended splitter. Thanks

Make brackets it can mount to? (thats what I plan on doing, I hope) Being wirth it depends on how much work you can do on the car without taking it off. The way I see it, you only need to access oil changes to make it worth while. Thats actually what I plan on doing next. (undertray/diffusers). Since it can be done on the cheap at home. That and my Wagon has a decent sized street compromise.

I'll be bringing my Wagon back out to the track, hopefully this year for hopefully at least one day at MMP. Prefferably on the east course.

Yeah sorry to hear about your wagon, Parker.

I made a temporary tray/template (front lip-wheel wells) out of some wall board and used the bolt holes for the stock mud guard and drilled across the front of the lip (liberal) Just push rivets to hold it and its plenty sturdy. I haven't gotten a chance to see if it makes a difference on track yet. I'm running an open track day at Sandia on Sun. and we have a NASA weekend at La Junta coming up. If I can feel a difference on track, I'll make one out of sheet aluminum or maybe lexan (polybarbonite) I just cut a semi-circle so it doesn't have to come off for the oil filter. Work in progress, I suppose.

Wondering how much difference it will make. Thanks
