i've read the faqs and lots of other posts, and i know a lot of people like GC 0w30 as it's a pretty thick 30w. If i'm going to autox half a dozen times a year, is this still a decent oil for a 4000 mile oci? The other oil i'm considering is a redline 5w30, or should i go for a 5w40? i'm in illinois btw

I'm currently using mobil1 5-30 and i'm sick of the slight consumption i'm seeing (1/2 to 2/3 quart after 4500 miles). I know it's probably already sheered to a 20w by now.

The best bang for the buck is GC. I've seen a used oil analysis on it ran in an STi that made 45 drag passes and it still stayed in grade.

Best thing to do is run it for 4 or 5k miles and do an analysis. Redline is very shear stable and the 30 weight might be fine. Even their 5W20 has a higher High Temp High Shear than M1 5W30. :) 5W40 would be good too.
