Here's some footage from our first trip to VIR for the full course. Lot's of traffic, but it was fun.

Still have some stuff to learn about that track, but managed 2:14's with traffic. :D

Will be posting some more videos up sometime this week.

275 Kumho Victoracers in that session. Ran the first session on 245 ContiSportContact3's and it was fast, but a little loose.

Nice. Any idea what kind of speeds you were reaching on the long straight coming out of the Oak Tree corner?

Top speed on the track was 140mph via GPS (traqmate), and was reached on that back straight. Speed through the esses was approx 115mph on the faster laps. There's more, but I have to grow a larger set first!

That was awesome. Polite people out there, at least it looked that way to me.

Nice - saw the car (which looks great btw), just didn't get a chance to say hello.

I had the miata in DE4, acting as the un-official 100whp chicane on the straights ;)

Feel your pain, I drive a 90 Miata to work everyday. Sure makes the STI fun on the weekends.

yea, the esses do require a set, I've just about gotten them down WOT in the new race car doing ~120 though them.... but then again I'm on hoosiers ;)

nice video though, and it was nice seeing you at the track...

The video racer in my says you can track out a little more in south bend if you want, and how early are you braking for 14?

Yeah, there are plenty of places that I need to track-out more. I'm a use caution and build up confidence person, as opposed to the drive it off the track then back off personality.

14 - probably about 300' by the end of the day Sunday. Maybe a bit deeper.

there is a GREAT racing line someone should show you for 14. you know when you get it right when you are coming over that hill so fast you think you'll go off on the inside. I'll try to describe it.

1) disregard all the braking markers
2) start at the middle of the track and aim for the gator on the left at the top of the hill.
3) use the hill to really compress your braking as you aim straight for that gator. (you might have to brake hard, let off a little to turn and get back on the brakes)
4) you will be on your brakes really hard coming to the crest of the hill and its a little scary as you cant really see the apex to 14a, but you will hit that corner WAY to the inside
5) turn and head down the hill.

I'll try to make a picture of it, but that alone will shave a good bit off your times. Its a little scary at first, but if I'm really in a rush i start braking a between 1 and the last marker ;)

Exactly what I do. It's amazing how much speed you can scrub off if you brake after going over the crest while you are pointed a little bit uphill. I end up doing most of my braking between 14 and 14a anyways. That's where I always end up catching the cars that pass me on the back straight since a lot of people brake too much into 14 and waste all that track.

Was that the same black 911(966?) at the beginning and end of the video? If so, you lapped him quick!

 @ '100whp chicane'. Speaking of that, I love when the spec miata waves you right after the Oak Tree.. I'm suprised you didn't scream "NO S#!+!"

Are you going to be at the Nite Series this evening, Steven, or are you too much of a track junkie now?

I'm a use caution and build up confidence person, as opposed to the drive it off the track then back off personality.Well.. I'm glad to hear that you use a different method at the track than you do autocross. ;)

Yes same porsche. It was a Carrera4 non-turbo I belive.

Hey, I try to be nice to the miatas, owning one, I know quite well it's straight speed is not it's strength.

Won't be at this nite series, maybe future ones, but it would probably be in the miata.

Nice video and nice driving.

I need to take mine to the track soon!! Never been, it`ll be fun to see how slow my initial numbers will be since I don`t feel like pulling weeds from the under carrage for a week!:furious:

what is your total set up , including engine?

The car is an 06 STI, easy way to tell you more about it, is checkout the car domain page we created for the GRM track challenge: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2559878
