Look for the Setup video............it was at the top of the list in the "SpeedVideos" box when I watched it.

I saw the commercial on Speed and hadnt seen anyone mention it on here so I thought I'd post it up....

Curious if anyone knows anymore detail about this program...It looks kinda interesting compared to some of the other reality TV car shows....

I know someone in it. I hear he had to pay his own way while doing this. (hotel, food, etc). I'm not sure how they picked the people but I'm sure there are good and not-so drivers. I wouldnt be able to commit to this thing, but sure seems better than Forza showdown to me.

GO Guiver!

A few very good autocrossers from the NW are in it. Ron Bauer, Kevin Dietz, and Doug Chase. Ron is in one of the previews.

Because when I look at the CV's and lookup the person who actually did what some of the people claim they did...the names are different

For most of the people, the descriptions are just copy/pasted text from somewhere else. As far as I can tell, the only REAL bios at this point are TK and Kenton. All of the names are real, though.

Though he has quite an impressive resume, Ron's not a former McClaren F1 test driver! Though I'm certain he'd be a decent one. Right down to the wire, they must still be in the process of updating the website with all the correct bios.

We're on our way over to a local beer/pizza joint to watch the show with Ron, Kevin and Doug. We race and hang out with these guys weekly - now they've made it to primetime TV. What next? My lips are sealed, but this show is going to be a hoot! It'll be interesting to see what kind of "reality" the producers piece together. Go Northwest Region!

yea, the kid is funny in that he has a lot to learn, and turning down free money is not the way to start a show.

I've met Jeremy several times on track (with redline) and he should be a force to watch.

Agreed. I was hoping they'd boot the kid right after he turned down RMR (idiot!, how do yo do that!), but I think you're right... he has stepped up to the 'drama' role and will surely be 'that guy', like Barnes in the Forza show... except instead of 'loudmouth irritant', he'll be 'snippy emo-lame'.

Also, how the HELL does he not know what race series Bridgestone supplies!?... I'd have loved to see the sponsor folks go... "uhhh.. F-FRIGGIN-ONE, YOU DOLT!, Or is that not 'National' enough for you!?'

Sheesh, who knows... they may turn it all around on us by the end... kid winds up being a hero or some crap. All in the editing...

I don't think the dad is the *biggest* problem, but definitely a big one!

The kid himself has a lot to learn. His attitude didn't seem to be that great either.

Rhys Millen is totally known throughout the country by those who really know about motorsports (rally, drifting...if you want to call that motorsport : puts flame suit on: ).

He didn't even know what series Bridgestone was involved in! He talked about go karts using them. How about Formula 1 and Champ Car, son? Then again, maybe TK and the producers knew the show needed some drama and decided to bring the kid on-board as one of the ten finalists. The fact that we're talking about this kid more than the others wasn't necessarily a bad move by them, now was it?

It also looks like they're using Potenza RE-01R tires like I have on my car!

haha I know, they wanted a national sponsor so they could try to keep them after. Thats a joke. Its not like Virgin has a race team they would try to put him on. Now RMR, they could take a young talented driver under wing after the event and build him up.

Sucks to be the guy with the RMR sponsership. RMR's looking to jump ship!

How about some different color for the cars ... on the outside the sponsor logo is barely noticeable since the camera likes to zoom out so much, on the inside, you can't see the faces with the helmets on. It was constantly 'who is that?'.

I have a link to a site that has this show for torrents, but its one of the ones I'm not allowed to post the URL for or I'll get kicked off. If you want this, shoot me a PM and I'll give you the URL. Its by far the best site for motorsport torrents that I have found yet. I get all my WRC, F1, and many many other series and shows from it.

My hopes for the rest of the season is that they focus less on the sponsorship thing and more on setting the cars up in the right way and how they do it. I have yet to hear anything actually saying what they did to make it work beyond whats his name not tightening the suspension bolt. Other then that, its good fun and I look forward to the rest of the show.

The act of doing that is extremely unsportsman-like though. Glad they kicked that bitph off the show.

Rhys Millen makes a pretty darn good host. Alot less obnoxious than the usual speed channel original series host, IMHO.

And even if Ashley is just there as eye candy/prerequisite female cohost (which she does so well), she fakes it very well. FAR better than the latest female cohost on Overhaulin'....

I agree on both. Rhys did well, and compared to that chick on overhaulin', Ashley did really well. She actually has some real personality and sass, where that other chick is only able to parrot the lines they threw at her- poorly.

I would disagree... In fact I think Jeremy should take up autox as he clearly can not drive in traffic, he needs to be all alone on the track.

I also wonder how things would have shaken out had this all not taken place on what is more or less his home track. ;)

I think the truth is we can not really tell who can drive and who cant because they do such a poor job editing the show.

Jeremy probably could've avoided getting into the rear of TK (Sobe No Fear Team). He got shafted in that Ron was unpenalized for hitting him. Ryan S. is driving the wheels off his Virgin car (and Jeremy's)! While he definitely was slower than Jeremy, I have to give him credit for driving 110% (and not doing something stupid like trying to bring a yellow out intentionally).

The promos are too confusing. There was no ambulance needed in any of the four episodes so far.

baby steps, folks...

this show is still worlds better than Forza... and it has the open-endedness to actually become a recurring series. I am willing to look past the sponsor plugging b/c the guys running the show have essentially demanded it, and so who wouldn't comply at that point. Can't fault the drivers.

Even Seinfeld had missteps in it's first season.

o.k., no, not really, but still!... I am willing to give the show some time to get rolling. I did want to choke Jeremy last night, but tv-editing can make anyone look like a bad guy, so 'meh'.

My comments on this last show would be that Jeremy is a good driver (comparatively) but can't deal with not being in the lead. He was bulldozing the whole second race. There appeared to be a lot of "dive bomb" pass attempts (including Rons) by everyone, plus a couple of pass'ees that refused to give up the line when it was no longer theirs. Ron kept up his integrity by not "blaming" anything on anybody unlike Primadonna Jeremy. I probably would have had a few more words for Mr. "I'm the reason I won" if he started smarting off to me like that..... Gotta give props for driving the broken car as well as he did though.....

I agree with most of what Josh says. I'd just add that it appeared that Jeremy had a genuine gripe about the selective enforcement of the black flag. He hits someone and gets black flagged but someone hits him hard enough to break his suspension but doesn't get black flagged.

I don't care if the rulings are stupid or are reasonable as long as they are consistently enforced.

That was the first show I'd watched and that's just embarrassing to see the show's creator go on such a joke of a power trip.

This show seems like a total downer. Tommy Kendal is such a hard-ass here opposed to his jovial persona on Test Drive. They're constantly playing that serious music in the background that comes off like an eerie bad dream soundtrack. And whats up with the chick side-kick? She seems like 'the gang leader's bish' the way she sits next to TK nodding her head as he reprimands the drivers and the way she poses while waving flags during races.

I gotta give props to the last 3 laps of the race. He was using all of the track drifting it though all the turns and making his car very wide, but keeping it in the racing line (generally). If he lost, he went home, I would have done the same thing!

I tried to like this show, but Speed just doesn't seem to be able to do these reality shows right. Too much heavy metal music in the background to add drama, and whoever is editing the show should be fired. I hate how they go from racing footage, to a driver interview, then back to the racing footage, then over to Tommy Kendall commenting, then back to the racing yadda yadda yadda.

I think Speed is trying to pull in non-racer viewers by adding all the drama, but they should probably realize that only REAL racing fans actually watch Speed, so they don't need to add all the window dressing. They aren't gonna get people like my mom to watch this stuff just by adding in soap opera storylines.

Just give us a freaking REAL racing reality show.

 I fully agree in principle, but remember who the bulk of Speed's viewers are... Nascar fans. Nascar == 'Sooo!, teh Drama!' ... and so Speed is trying to deliver.

I know, I know... shouldn't be that way. My guess is that they're trying to show Nascar fans, "hey, look at this... MORE drama!, and in an unlikely place... road-racing!.. Please PLEASE watch our station on non-Nascar days!"

There's no crying in road racing!

I was rooting for Jeremy until I saw him have his emotional breakdown. Then he went down some points with me.

Do you think there was a possibility of the show being "setup"? Not much excitement if the same driver wins all the races so the producers had to mix things up.

The show started out a little dramatic, but interesting despite the annoying chic.

This last episode was just rediculous. Judgements nowhere near fair, annoying chic ups the level and becomes retarded, the "creator" comes on with some god complex..... give me a break. Looks like this show is severely tainted (as with everything else) to be more about creating drama to make money rather than about real racing. Call ALL the major contact level, get someone who understands racing instead of a set of boobs spouting off her mouth and waving flags incorrectly, and keep the soap opera out of it and race.

Jeremy proved 2 things. He has the best car control of anyone on the show, and he's not ready to be a professional yet.

Just ask myself or any of the NW guys that actually personally got to know her and her family. Kevin dated her for a year and I wasted half my summer and trip to Vegas with the girl. Data points abound.

She is an un-educated hussler, her morale compass is broken, and wherever she is- rest assured she is making some poor male victim on her "roster" as she calls it completely miserable, while sucking their checking account dry. No question what comes first in her world- she is acutely aware of her actions by her own admission. I wouldn't even know where to start with the first hand stories, but suffice to say even her own mother couldn't stop apologizing to me while encouraging me to steer clear of her. How sad is that.

It is sad to say- but there are some people in this world, like Saddam, that upon falling off it no one will miss. In time what beauty she has will fade, the car club sightings will subside, and I'll let the rest of you decide how far her personality will carry her in life.

I strongly suspect the last laugh will be ours, as at some point she is going to try shaking down the wrong guy, and she will be the one taking the ride. Just leave the popcorn to me.

On a more serious note, this was a much better show. The racing wasnt to cut up by the editing and the best drivers rose to the top. They only seem to screw with Jeremy a little this time.

Im on the fence as far as Ryan is concerned, it seemed to me he was out and out tattling on Jeremy, on the otherhand he was trying to win with everything he had at hand. The "race official" dude hammered though with the " you got a second chance" comment, pretty much game over at that point.

The show is called Setup, yet they don't talk about, or seem to pay any attention to how the different drivers set up their cars at all. :furious:

During previous episodes, I thought they should really have some sort of points system, so that if a good driver has a bad race, it's not gonna effect him as much. Ugh... I got ill watching all the roundy-round yesterday. Boring. They could've cut down to 2 short races and the finale and shown more actual racing and I'd have enjoyed it more. I was glad we saw more racing, just wished it wasn't all short-track.

I wanted to shoot that girl at least 2x.

People over on www.setup-tv.com are on there defending her 'driving ability' as they were apparently involved in one of those 'Luxury Rallies' with her. Ugh.

paraphrase: "I saw her drive a [some Merc, I forget] at 120mph on the freeway in traffic!, she's got skillzzz!"

No, she's got 'teh stupidz', bragging about running 120mph through freeway traffic is admitting to a major crime, near as I figure.

If you have been to Big Willow, you'll know that they have "Toyota" signs all over the place at the track! I don't think it's owned by them, but the name is around.

You brought up Laguna. You are right, Honda does rent the track for testing. But I don't recall it being televised or seeing a "Honda sponsored race at Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway".
That probably wouldn't fly right?

Again, I'm not saying anything that isn't common knowledge, just pointing out some fairly obvious things some might have overlooked.

Im on the fence as far as Ryan is concerned, it seemed to me he was out and out tattling on Jeremy, on the otherhand he was trying to win with everything he had at hand. The "race official" dude hammered though with the " you got a second chance" comment, pretty much game over at that point.

I thought Ryan got the shaft when they put him on the outside and Jeremy on the inside for their shootout race. Considering Jeremy has significantly more track racing experience than Ryan did, would have seemed more fair to give the slower driver the inside (Unless I missed the reason why that was done).

Considering Jeremy has significantly more track racing experience than Ryan did, would have seemed more fair to give the slower driver the inside (Unless I missed the reason why that was done). My guess is that they would give Jeremy that edge because he was the one who finished ahead of Ryan in the broken-suspension-drift-battlestage. Since Ryan was already on his 9th life I don't think he earned himself any favors. I mean, he hit Jeremy hard enough to break Jeremy's suspension, he still lost, and then he complains that Jeremy isn't fixing the car that HE broke fast enough. And THEN Ryan complains that he had to replace his intercooler. He probably broke the damn intercooler on Jeremy's suspension

I definitely enjoyed when they showed Jeremy working on the car right after the "5:00" meeting and he was calling him a "frigging moron" and all that. Good TV.

And to punctuate the evening they replayed the episode of Pinks where Rich steps onto a sportbike with no helmet and no gear and puts it down about 50 feet after getting on it.

Yeah all that oval racing was getting boring... felt like I was watching NASCAR... oh wait that is what SPEED is all about. And Ashley sure likes to thrust her butt out before waving the flag. I laughed out loud the first time she did it. Spread her legs, thrust out her butt and waved the flag. Kinda like people staging to Rich on Pinks and watching his shoulders.

Both of those rerun PINKS were more entertaining then SETUP was... Ashley is a bimbo and the racing is boring... They going to some different tracks or stuck on the same ones over and over?

The way this show it edited, you don't think they can make sure that the Toyota signs aren't shown? You can set up a camera adjacent to the Toyota building in Turn 9 and show them coming out of six and going through 9. I don't buy it. If that was really an issue then they could have gone to Buttonwillow!
-GillesVilleneuve

Or blur out the signs. I never heard Big Willow being called TOYOTA Big Willow or Toyota Willow Springs Raceway.

I think Buttonwillow for next season would be great. Lots of track configurations.

Great shows so far, I can't wait to see how everything turns out. :) Only thing I can say, is that I'm really jealous cause I wasn't on the show, heh. He may have been the quickest, but he has a LOT to learn about how to drive in the field. Never once did he show any composure when he was in second or on back. Even in the last race he was charging every corner instead of picking a spot to make a move.

On the flip side, why the hell didn't Ron or anyone else protect their line in that uphill decreasing radius turn? They left the door wide open for the "slide move" every time..

Me either, but other shows give people an opportunity to do things i could care less about..;) Seeing as this is a hobby for a lot of us i tend to think the interest is there for most. I would love an opportunity like this if for nothing more than to see how well i stack up against others in the same position. SPEED isn't ruining themselves at all. Just because I don't like something doesn't mean other people don't like it.

Think about it, there are motorsports based on air, land, water, dirt, asphalt, ovals, road courses, and about a hundred other forms--snowmobiles, tractors, etc. How the hell can you cater to one segment? I watch what I like on SPEED, and don't watch what I don't like. Isn't that what we all do on most networks?

TV programming, on any network, isn't free. Shows are also signed for additional seasons when the ratings are high enough. I might not care for Setup, but enough people watch it and enough people advertise during it to bring it back for another season.

I would agree. SPEED has been total crap for many years now, so they can't possibly ruin themselves any further than they have already. Except for DVR'ing F1 and MotoGP, there isn't much to watch. And this is coming from a very early subscriber of Speedvision, who watched the channel religiously for years.

Justin , the guy with the tatoos and really light-colored blue eyes, used to campaign an EP Acura Integra with the San Diego Region SCCA in autocrossing. Moved away in the early 2000's with the military, good to see him back behind the wheel.

my buddy Danan is on the show this season ... I didn't think the show was all that bad from a production point of view, I can see how everyone hates reality TV shows, but unfortunately that's all that's left for TV, and even though it's the short cut way of getting into an industry, I know everyone would be happy if it happened to them.

I'll keep watching it to support my friend, plus there should be some really good action coming up from him.

I would agree. SPEED has been total crap for many years now, so they can't possibly ruin themselves any further than they have already. Except for DVR'ing F1 and MotoGP, there isn't much to watch. And this is coming from a very early subscriber of Speedvision, who watched the channel religiously for years.

If you love Sprint Cup, Nationwide, and Craftsmen truck, then SPEED is for you.

Good point. Never saw the bitter, negative post coming.

Nope, not bitter or negative in the least bit. It is a rather accepted thing amongst enthusiasts that SPEED has horrible coverage, and has for several years. As mentioned by many others, the best way to catch most of the good racing is via DVR thanks to 10am Tuesday morning airings. Unless of course you love PINKS, Will Castro, or non-stop coverage of overpriced, auctioned Mopars, then you will be in heaven

Perhaps you should pull the blinders off
