The clutch on my 1999 Outback sport is slipping and my dad and brother-in-law are going to adjust it for me. However, I can't find info for them on how to do it.

I know I could surf to find it, but my parents have dialup and it is nightmarishly slow (I'm spoiled by my DSL at home!!)

I could really use a hand with either instructions here or a link to a site / pdf file / something that will give some instructions or info on getting it done.

thanks!!!

Michelle

If the clutch is slipping it's worn out, adjusting isn't going to fix it.
I'm not sure if your '99 has a cable or hydraulic clutch, if it's cable there is an adjustment for the cable. However the cable usually stretches which will not cause the clutch to slip, rather it will cause it to not disengage fully and you'll have difficulty getting into gear.
Sorry but you're most likely going to need a new clutch.

Can you point me in the right direction for adjusting the cable to see if that helps at all? The clutch has a "long throw" (according to my dad, it seems normal to me, but I'm sure that's because I'm used to it.)

Where would I find out what kind of clutch it is?

If you have a clutch master/slave as seen here http://www.northursalia.com/modifications/drivetrain/cbleed/cbleed.html

you have a hydraulic clutch and it cannot be adjusted. If there's a cable coming through the firewall attaching to the clutch release fork, you have a cable clutch :).

I haven't done it myself, but, from what i understand you can adjust the pedal at the top of the pedal arm?

it should be cable.
