Been searching and searching, but answers aren't clear.

Have: 06 WRX wagon CGM.
Want: 17x8 e48 wheels with 225/45's, hell, 235/40's if they'll fit.
Plan: To ride on either prodrive springs or STi wagon springs with stock struts for now. Average drop IIRC is 1.2" to 1.5".
Question: Will a simple fender roll job get me to clear?

I can't tell who got 8's to clear on struts, and who was running coilovers. I'd like to avoid running coilovers for now at least.

Kicking around the idea of Rota hyper black or bronze, or the silver with RPF1's.

17x8 +48 with 235/40r17 should fit no problems. You may need a little negative camber, but nothing crazy. Rolling the fenders makes it safer, the rubber liner thing MUST be removed.

^^^Seconding. Have fun with the neg camber because all it does is add more grip and no wear as long as your toe is good.

*need to be more attentive to your tire rotation to keep the tread even inside-out

Thanks guys. I know I can get a toe adjustment with stock setup IIRC, but do I need to go beyond the camber adjustment that I can get without camber bolts? Like negative 1 degree? More? Stock toe setting is adequate, or no?

Let us know how it goes, I have an 06 as well and curious as to what can fit under the fenders..

I will be attempting to fit 245/40R17 under my wagon fenders with the 17x8 +45 RPF-1s I have. My car isn't super low or anything, so clearance shouldn't be so much a problem, but we will see. For sure, 235/40R17 is not even an issue.

You're on JIC coilovers, right? I plan on staying with struts, so in addition to fender clearance, I'm also concerned about spring perch clearance at the inside. 245's though, huh? If you pull it off, you simply must post some photos.

I know an '06 wagon locally that is running on wagon pinks and runs a 17x8 235/40-17 Azeni 615, no fender rolling, and doesn't rub even with four people in the car or at AutoX. The 235/40 has a pretty short sidewall so I think that helps.

ooooOOOOOOooooo!
that's the kind of info I was looking for. Is he running stock struts? Do you know his wheel offset?
I was probably going to go with a Kumho SPT for the time being since I know it has a smaller section width/overall width.

I had stock struts before on Tein S-Tech springs. The only thing required was to roll the back and use a little negative camber. The rub spot is NOT the strut nor the fender, it is the small little thing that holds the back bumper on. If you use a 225/45R17, you are more likely to rub than the 235/40R17. Camber is required in the rear, the front is just fine with stock adjustment.

Nice. Your car looks absolutely awesome. I am considering the same wheels in possibly the same color. Thanks for the help and the answers. This has been the best set of answers yet. 235/40 has less overall diameter than 225/45 right?

How much camber did you go with, 1 degree negative, or more than that? Also are you on +45 or +48 offset? RPF1's come in both in 8" right?

He's running the OZ Ultralegge... however you spell it, 17x8 ET48. He's on koni inserts, and I don't think he's got anything for camber adjustment in the rear.

The 235/40 has a smaller overall than 225/45, especially since i have the RE070. I will try to run a 245/40R17 Kumho MX or something similar on my next set of tires...very soon...

Right now, I have -1 in the front and -1.6 in the rear. My toe is set 0 and caster in the front is 3.3. At the track, I go MAX negative in the front since I have stock sway bars and street tires, works out to about 3 deg neg and handles nice at the limit...
