just got rota torques 17 X 8, putting 215/45's on em, wondering what tire pressure some guys are running w/ a similar setup, in order to have a more even treadwear...happy easter fellas

wow that is thin. i wouldn't run anything less than 225's and that's pushing it. 235 or 245 is the way to go if u ask me...

215s on an 8 inch rim?

I hope you like the stretched look.

As was said above, a 225/45 is really the minimum you should be running on those, a 235/40 or 245/40 would be ideal.

with 245/40-17's do you have to roll your fenders? what about 235?

man, a 215 on that width wheel is like a fat girl wearing a baby-t...it's stretched way too thin and not good looking at all.

haha, thanks for the input, i know they're way thin, and when i bought em, i was originally told they were 225's, but saw they weren't and still decided to get em b/c they're eagle F1's and i paid $300 for all four...my concern is will i have horrible treadware? what problem am i lookin at w/ such a small tire...?

That is really stretched out on an 8 inch rim man. If you run that might have to start calling you a VW owner or something

Typically, I have only seen the Drifters running Wide Wheels with Narrow Tires. Odd looking setup, but gets the job done (it is usually on an AE86 or 240sx).

215/45s will fit w/zero problems. but if you don't like the way they look then listen to all the sheep. If you consider driving on a third of your sidewall no problem. And if you even get near a curb the first thing to get hit will be your rim whether it has a bead protector or not.

You are right. That size is approved for his rim width. A little close to the limit but not over it. The tire manufacturers do alot of evaluation to determine what will work and approve the specifications and are posted on the tirerack.com under "specs" as you browse the different tires. Ofcourse you need to maintain proper inflation pressure so as not to be driving on the sidewalls. Depends on what your trying to do, if your trying to avoid having sidewall flex and eliminate a larger size from contacting a strut assembly or whatever. Hard driving will cause the sidewalls to flex, certainly less with lower aspect ratios but jsut depends on your mission and the trade offs you want to make. Captain Spaulding did I mention? You are right.

Yeah totally agree, and yes it does depend on what you're trying to achieve.. Just wanted to clarify it will fit without a problem, as alot of nasicocers seem to be deathly afraid of stretch without ever experiencing/experimenting with it..

Yes you are also right. "No one said it wouldn't fit" and almost everyone said it was a "crap fit". I think the Captain and I were trying to give a more open and objective answer. Certainly all the opinions are probably based on personal experience unless someone who responded is a tire designer/engineer. My opinion is that I see alot of tires that are extremely oversized for the wheels or a combination of both oversized tire and wheel combos that are "crap fit" rubbing suspension or fender wells. Unsafe. The balance is what the tire manufacturers state are approved rim widths for a tire that they design test and manufacture verses personal opinions.

I have tried this out and figured I could chime in. I bought a set of used 17x8 enkei rpf1s with relatively new 215/45/17s mounted on them a week ago. I would definently not use a stretched tire setup for daily driving. But I now know why it's popular amongst the drifter crowds, this setup is quite fun! It's VERY easy to slide out and still feel flat/controlled doing it.

What tire pressure do you run with?
