View Full Version : EBC yellow stuff, anybody using them ? taosracer 04-08-2007, 04:34 PM Looking for feedback on EBS yellow stuff compound, from anybody that's tracked their WRX with them. Thanks taosracer 04-09-2007, 08:42 PM Anybody out there ? ChrisDP 04-09-2007, 11:20 PM With as many other options as there are out there from Cobalt/Carbotech/Hawk/Porterfield/Ferodo etc. which are already proven and effective... why bother? taosracer 05-10-2007, 08:59 PM I ordered a set, got a great deal from the guys who sold me the Hawk Blues that only lasted a few days. I'll post impressions here soon. Still wondering if anybody uses them bknblk 05-10-2007, 09:13 PM I've got Greens on my Jeep...00'ed at Rally TN last year :) I think subi gal rallied some sort of EBC pads. Sharky NRK 05-10-2007, 09:26 PM suby gal used to rave about yellow stuff - she may respond. I will need to look into the cheapest but most effective for the money TRACK ONLY pads. It just seems a better option to swap them for track days REX8 05-10-2007, 11:21 PM I ordered a set, got a great deal from the guys who sold me the Hawk Blues that only lasted a few days. I picked up a set cheap and am curious as to what to expect. taosracer 05-10-2007, 11:55 PM I had to do a few days of street driving on the blues when my "practical" car went down. They were toast :( Hawk told me that they wear fast (I'd say disintegrate !) at low temps, after the fact. I suggested that they make that clear. Yes, I know they are race pads, and I shouldn't have driven them on the street. Anyway, I ran them just on the front, and liked the initial bite. I would have prefered having them on all four corners, as my trail-braking felt a little shaky, with so much front bias. My car is a stage 2 wrx wagon, with Hankook Z211s, konis and 260/210 # springs. I'm hoping the EBCs will be a decent dual purpose pad, as I don't really want to swap out a lot of stuff at the track. I usually drive a couple hundred miles to events, so I can't really switch out pads the night before etc. REX8 05-11-2007, 12:06 AM I had to do a few days of street driving on the blues when my "practical" car went down. You sould look to HP+'s and Carbotech PP (they remaned their panther+ to something else, but I think the pad remained similar). Bear in mind, it only takes 2 bolts to swap pads. If you start driving hard, you won't really have a choice, as double-duty pads just don't hold up with aggressive driving and our heavy cars. Driving to an event on Xp8's or even the yellows won't be bad. But in daily driving, forget about it. My advice: Put the yellows on either the night before, or at the track. A couple hundred highway miles to and from the track won't kill them like daily driving will. taosracer 05-11-2007, 12:18 AM Thanks, EBC or some resellers "market" them as street/track pads. I'll find out. I'm hoping that one of our real racers will have some rotor paint so I can get some accurate temp readings. I am going for fast laps in TT, but am not especially hard on brakes (if I remember to cool them down !) I know I can swap out pads at the track easily enough. I just like to keep things simple, so I can concentrate on driving real fast and having fun, plus often I have my daughter and a buddy with me. She's 11, so I'll have her taking care of the car soon !! Barge 05-11-2007, 04:33 PM I am trying out a set of the EBC yellows as well and will also be testing them as a street/track pad. So we'll see how that goes. maxQ 05-11-2007, 05:56 PM Thanks, EBC or some resellers "market" them as street/track pads. I'll find out. Subie Gal 05-12-2007, 11:13 AM Love my Yellowstuffs. and they're catching on fast in the world of rally..... my review: http://www.subiegal.com/productreview/ebcyellowstuff/ebcbrakes_yellowstuff_review.htm my car: http://www.subiegal.com/pnw-foto-subiegal.jpg feel free to pm/email me if you have questions Jamie http://www.subiegal.com/subiegal-smilie.png (http://www.subiegal.com/) taosracer 05-12-2007, 07:23 PM Excellent, thanks for the write-up. I sould have the pads in time for our next TT weekend. Here's my little wagon. I still get my daughter to hockey prctice in it ! One track day - they rocked, no problems. Never faded and seemed to have plenty of stopping power. No problems on the street either. Way quieter then my HP+s but they lose some bite when cold. SubyFi 06-15-2007, 12:17 AM I did a track day at Buttonwillow on June 3. My brake setup is ATE Gold brake fluid, Goodridge stainless brake lines, EBC Redstuff pads and stock rotors in the rear, EBC Yellowstuff and DBA 4000 slotted rotors in front. They were great in the morning while it was cooler weather. Good bite and good modulation with steady brake pedal pressure. I would say these are about the same as the Ferodo DS2500 pads. Then in the afternoon, the day got hot, about 95 degrees. After about 6 laps, I started having brake fade after long straights. I had a off on the straight (about 120 MPH) at the Sunset turn after the esses. Pedal was firm but I did not slow down enough to make the 90 degree left turn and just went off track in a straight line. I think brake ducts would of helped me there (my next mod). I drove on the Yellowstuff for a week without any problems. Morning commute was about 70 degrees and return home about 80ish. I had slight squeaking during low speed braking (stop and go traffic jam). When I removed the EBC Yellowstuff to swap in my street pads, the yellow paint on the pads was bubbled and could flake off because they got really hot on my track day. Rotor wear was acceptable and there was no deep grooving. Dusting was negligible. I consider these pads suitable for track and street. Jonnyfilmboy 06-16-2007, 02:00 AM I have redstuff pads on my daily driver as I was planning on doing a track day last year which didn't end up working out. I left the redstuff pads on and so far they work OK. Honestly, I think the stock pads are better in terms of initial bite, especially when cold. And the stockers definitely leave less dust. Redstuffs leave tons of brake dust. But the redstuffs don't fade in quick driving on the highway or on my trips up and down the tight twisties of Kettle Morraine (Wisconsin's Tale of the Dragon) the way the stockers would. Also, with any ceramic pads, you should expect a significant increase in brake sound over the stock material. taosracer 06-30-2007, 04:31 PM I bailed on getting the yellow stuff's for two reasons. They were taking forever to receive, and I am retiring the wagon from track duty. I've got a Porsche lined up to run in the 944spec class !! I may try them on that car since I will be driving it to the track. (trailering is for sissy's) Cheers |
