View Full Version : AVO actuator + Cobb stage reflash = 18psi?

I have a 2005 wrx with Uppipe, TBE, Access port stage 2 93oct, Pulley, Intake. (All cobb) I put on an AVO actuator and now my boost is 18psi tapering down to 14.6psi at redline. It was 16.1psi tapering down to 13.6 at redline before.

Will this actuator cause the engine to run too lean?
Is it safe to run this much boost with the OTS Cobb stage 2 map?
Do I need a custom PDX map?
Should I take the AVO actuator off and put the stock one back on?

i'd shoot Ross over at AVO an e-mail and he'd be more than happy to help you out.

IDC's should be good at 14.6psi/redline.... you'll wanna find a way to monitor that

I thought stage 2 parameters were 17.5 PSI +/- .5? I know I boosted close to 18lbs when I was stage 2.

Cobb says 16.5psi +/- 0.7psi tapering down to ~13psi at redline.

And what are IDC's?

^Injector duty cycles...

So, just because I am making a little extra boost the engine will not run lean because the ECU will put more fuel to the injectors to compensate.

I can use my ver.2 accessport to monitor the IDC's right? What is a good reading and what is bad?

So, just because I am making a little extra boost the engine will not run lean because the ECU will put more fuel to the injectors to compensate.

This is not always true.... I have a VF34 setup with pinks on the cobb map and have been maxing the pinks out at around 17.5 psi. Granted I am still working on getting my boost down since I have found my wastegate pressure is at around 18.5psi. You can max out the injectors easily without even knowing it if you dont do some data logging.

So what is the max psi you can go with the cobb stage 2 then?

Wrong forum + not reading the sticky thread in the right forum....bad combo. Moving........

you wouldn't know if the car was running okay unless you had a wideband on it. the Cobb OTS maps load range doesn't go very high. the load range only goes to 2.25. When I first got my Street tuner setup and was just logging OTS map values, I would easily get to 2.45+ in load at 18psi. even tho there is more air going through the MAF, the ECU doesn't know what to do with it because the map isn't scaled for that much air. so its basicly using fuel for 2.25 load when you may be hitting something much higher. the same goes for the timing map. And as load rises, your ignition timing should decrease.

Thank you Unabomber. I discovered the other forum after I posted in the wrong one. As for the faq, it did not answer my question.

The AVO waste gate actuator is adjustable (waste gate arm nut). Have you made any adjustments after intalling it ? They must be dialed in after install. By the way this is an excellent part, I love mine.

^^^^^^^^ Did you connect it to the tee or to the turbo? And what is the peak boost you see?

So how high of boost can I run with Cobb's OTS stage 2 93oct. map?

I got my answer. Thank you all for your help.

It will work just fine. The Cobb OTS map is pretty rich up top.

After running it this way for a while I have had no problems. I have also got a PDX tune now so there is no worries with running 18psi.
