I was always told by 60k you should change your ATF fluid...or its too late !

my Girlfriends 95 Legacy has just under 100k....

Can I still do a fluid flush???

If it's never been changed, i wouldn't change it. There's a good chance that the new fluid will damage the internal clutch packs inside the trans, and then it'll either have to be rebuilt or replaced. I'm not saying that it's going to happen, but it might. At the shop I work at, any car with more than 70K on it that has never had the ATF changed, we refuse to change it. That came after having to buy a customer a new transmission after we flushed the fluid for them. They came in with a 1995 Nissan Maxima with 115K on it, and asked for a transmission flush. They said that it had never been done. I was handed the work order and I told the management that it shouldn't be done with that many miles. They said to do it anyway. I made them (the management) sign a paper before I got started that basically said that I wasn't going to be held accountable for damage to this guys transmission. I did the trans flush, made sure there was enough fluid in the trans, disconnected the flush machine and when I went to move the car, it had 2 gears. Park and neutral. Needless to say, the management bought the guy a transmission and I got to tell the boss "I told you so".

no ****?? wow....

bummer about automatics huh?

well the thing is.... her tranny is messed up anyway... when u turn the wheel too much when turning in a parking lot, it getts harder to turn the wheel..and it sort of "bucks"....her tranny temp lights stays on for a really long time when starting the car up as well....

I checked the fluid level and it was really low....so I added 1/2 lucas oil tranny fuild, and 1/2 regular atf till it was full....hasnt really made any difference.

so...she's going to need a new transmission as it is anyway.... I just thought doing a 100% fuild swap might help out a litle before she did...

If it's the torque bind in the transfer clutch, replacing the complete transmission is not necessary because the housing is a bolted-on part. But the first thing to try in this case is actually changing the fluid, with some limited-slip additive mixed in (per factory TSB). It did help some people.

Instead of the flush, I just changed my ATF using the drain and fill method (ends up being about 4.2 quarts). This does not replace it all, but since I had gone 110k miles without changing it, I figured I should mix in some new with old and see how she goes. I used standard Valvoline Dexron III - they have some 'Max Life' blend for trannys past 75k miles, I may try that next time.

Much smoother now, but I just changed it this morning, and if anything goes wrong in the coming weeks, I will be on this forum telling my story....

I also changed my front differential fluid and gained about 2 MPG.

<please no flaming me - I know I should have changed it all before>
