View Full Version : STRI 60mm boost, oil press and temp
Penguin150 04-10-2007, 05:49 PM I bought these gauges from Chris at CVR motorsports. Upon opening it everything looked great. I had no issues installing the sensors or wiring. I fitted it with the ATI clock pod which had to be sanded down a little bit for the 60mm gauges to fit in. I used the Greddy sandwich adaptor for the oil pressure and temp sensors which seem to be fine.
The only problem I had was the T fitting for the boost gauge. The T fitting that it came with the gauge was plugged up, seems like the plastic mold was not made right from the factory. I did a vacuum test earlier today to confirm it was plugged up. I went to autozone and replaced that fitting. This was a 2 dollar part that gave me a headache for the past two days. Anyhow everything works fine now, I recommend these guages as a cheap Defi replica solution if you don't need all the features the Defi has.
Pictures will be up after I wash my car.
Carlito2002WGN 04-24-2007, 05:01 PM Haven't you washed your da mn car yet??? Hurry up, I want more info on these gauges!:D
Penguin150 04-27-2007, 04:06 AM Sorry about that, I've been pretty busy. But here you go!

how do you like them so far? and which line of gauges is that? dsd or xline?
thx for the pics
Penguin150 04-27-2007, 03:22 PM They're cool. These are the DSD line with the smoked lens. They do what they're suppose to do. I had a small issue with the install because the vaccum T supplied by STRI was clogged, it took me 2 days to figure out the problem. The connectors and sensors look to be of good quality.
AlboWRX 04-27-2007, 09:05 PM No EGT gauge?
Penguin150 04-27-2007, 10:53 PM I would've but I dont trust myself tapping the header.
AlboWRX 04-27-2007, 11:09 PM It`s really easy and with some instructions from here you can do it. It`s the next important gauge to the boost gauge.
fastwrx25 04-27-2007, 11:15 PM does it say where the gauges are made on the box or the gauge itself?
Penguin150 04-28-2007, 01:02 AM I think it was China or Taiwan. I'll check when I go to my garage.
Bryan C 05-01-2007, 12:21 AM These are made in Japan. www.Stri.jp
Alan l. 05-02-2007, 11:44 AM Where did you tap power from and do they dim?
Full Boost 05-06-2007, 03:21 AM They look real nice. Are they hard to read in the day time and what is the difference with the clear ones?
Penguin150 05-10-2007, 04:10 PM Not hard to read at all in the day time. I believe the clear lens does not turn on during the day time... I could be wrong
All4bSpinnin 05-10-2007, 09:36 PM does anyone have any pics of the amber ones?!?!
GuestBrowser 05-12-2007, 02:16 AM The DSDs have peak recall but, how are you supposed to do that with no control unit? I think I might get a set. Is the Oil Pres sensor under the alternator? Also, did you have the factory boost?
Alan l. 05-12-2007, 02:52 AM I just installed my STRI gauges (boost and water temp). Looks nice but I have a queston about how the needles move. When they're doing the opening sequence they move nice and smooth/fluid but when they are in reg. operating mode i noticed that my boost gauge's needle moves sorta like a clock, e.g. tick tick tick instead of moving smoothly. Its more noticable when your just idling and the boost gauge is just moving up and down very slightly. Is this normal?
fastwrx25 05-13-2007, 09:50 AM These are made in Japan. www.Stri.jp (http://www.Stri.jp)
I don't believe it. someone could easily setup a website and address based in japan.
someone could easily make the gauges in china/taiwan, buy out a advertisement in option magazine, and promote the gauges as the newest bling JDM gauges here back in the states to make a killer profit.
I have no problem with making a profit but to do so by deception is not cool.
ok did a quick google and here is their official website http://www.striracing.com/contact.htm

MADE IN TAIWAN. not made in japan.
just think about it. If they were made in japan don't you think we would've heard about them before? I have nothing against the company. I actually think the gauges look great and the price is reasonable..I just don't agree with vendors promoting the gauges as made in japan when they obviously are not. isn't that false advertising?
GuestBrowser 05-13-2007, 10:46 PM I've been wondering the same thing as well because Ive never heard of the brand and they just popped out of nowhere, so I did some digging and I was linked to this site, http://www.stri-racing.com/contact/
Netherlands????
I have nothing against the company myself but, I dont understand why numerous vendors are saying that they are from Japan when people ask, and thats it. Ive also read about someone inquiring about the accuracy of these gauges and the response was, as accurate as DEFI? Hmmm
crazyGC8 05-29-2007, 05:13 PM Bump this for new reviews!! I'm thinking of getting these or Prosports.
mjd85la 06-15-2007, 11:54 AM bump, more reviews!
GuestBrowser 06-19-2007, 04:22 PM Can you daisy chain these like the Defis? Pretty nice.
JGS93GT 06-26-2007, 02:51 PM I bought these DSD gauges and I think they are a good setup for the price. Everything was about $500 shipped. Boost, Oil Press. Water Temp. I got the ATI pod also....The color of the pod is a pretty good matching color of the dash.
My boost gauge was only reading ~10 psi and I had a weird sound from my turbo (it was no longer a wooosh sound)
I think the "T" fitting it too restricted so I drilled it out and then it was back to normal and now the gauge reads ~16psi
I still have to hook up the oil pressure, but I have put it off because the gauge is NPT threads and the galley plug is BSPT and I don't want to use an adapter because the area where near the IC is pretty tight....
Anyone use the stock sending unit under the alternator? Does that require an adapter?? I'm still trying to find that answer out.
All I have so far is a night pic. I will have to post up some day pics soon.

mjd85la 06-26-2007, 03:02 PM So ur boost gauges is reading acurate now ?
JGS93GT 06-26-2007, 03:41 PM Once I drilled out the "T" fitting......Mine is reading correctly now and the turbo is making the correct noise when I left off the gas....before it was like a surging sound coming from the turbo so I knew something was wrong.
Not sure if the gauge is correct, but when I do a max peek recall I see ~17psi
I thought stock was 14-16psi??
I know this is peak, but what should the boost peak at or what is the correct PSI people see?
Thanks
CYF313 06-26-2007, 04:05 PM I have the 4 Bar Stri Amber gauge and it is not accurate. Connections seems fine and I bought a new T fitting from the get going after reading on the forums about the one that came with the gauge.
After intial sequence, the needle is a little below the 0 (maybe 1 click below). So I know it's off from that stand point. At WOT I'm seeing 3rd gear I'm seeing. 1.4 BAR (20.4 PSI) Car is stock 04 Sti.
mjd85la 06-26-2007, 05:36 PM wow... how long have you had the gauge now?
JGS93GT 06-26-2007, 06:23 PM My boost gauge was also reading below the "0" when the car was not running, but keyed on.
I called the place I got them and they sent me out a new gauge.
I tried the new sending unit and the new gauge and it was the gauge that was not setting to 0. Replaced it and it goes to 0 now.
steven23456789 06-27-2007, 03:15 AM how much for the all.
GuestBrowser 06-28-2007, 11:35 PM Nice picture. For those who self installed the Imperial Oil Pressure, are the threads NPT or PT/BSPT? Thanks
wRxbeater11 11-01-2007, 10:50 AM Is it just me of does the X line appear to be orange rather then Amber?
wRxbeater11 11-01-2007, 02:47 PM Also mine doesint sweep like the STI cluster does. Ive seen the X line on video sweep though mine doesint.
Alan l. 11-02-2007, 01:16 PM I also have a boost gauge that reads one tick below zero when the car isn't on. I'm also having issues with my water temp gauge moving up and down on its own. I shoulda spent the extra loot and gotten the Defi's.
looking at these gauges and they look good. If u guys were to do it it again would you consider mad dad or prosports? is the smoked lens visible during the daytime?
wRxbeater11 11-08-2007, 10:28 PM Yea deff better off spending a bit more for the real thing. Going from Defi's to these made me pretty disappointed. Defi FTW!
Yea deff better off spending a bit more for the real thing. Going from Defi's to these made me pretty disappointed. Defi FTW!
Defi's are too big though, i'm looking for 52mm.....wonder if greddy is a better alternative than prosport, maddad or stri's.
beevnessmonster 10-31-2008, 12:31 AM any updates on these in the past year has anyone recently gotten them that likes them? is the movement notchy or fluid?
Alan l. 11-11-2008, 11:33 AM Movement is notchy. Not fluid at all with my dsd. ticks like a clock is the best way to describe it.
Robbie_R 11-18-2008, 06:06 PM Well mine died after about a month of using. I had oil pressure, boost and EGT. EGT is the only one that still works. I sent the 2 back for warranty back in july and have yet to see anything return. Yes it is now November. Also yes during operation the guages don't move smoothly they step. And during the opening sequence they don't move in sync everytime which I don't understand because they're daisy chained. So I don't think I'll be using another set of these guages.
