I bought a used unmarried AP on Ebay. It was previously used on 2004 and sucessfully un-married. I tried to convert to '05 by connecting to my PC prior to marrying to the car but the AP would not let me download anything. So I thought you had to marry the AP prior to the '04 to '05 conversion.

I then married it to my 2005 Aero prior to changing the software to 2005. The car started and ran fine with the 2004 map. I used the Stage 1 91 base map that was already on the AP when I bought it.

I then hooked the AP to my PC and downloaded the 2005 conversion, loaded the 2005 maps and attempted to reflash the ECU with Stage 1 93 base map.

Everything seemed to go fine during the reflash but now the car won't start. It just cranks. I hooked the AP back to the car and tried the "reset ECU" and "revert to stock" selections but I get error messages. Also the check engine light does not flash when the green test connectors and initialization connector are connected and I keep getting error messages that the AP can't connect with the ECU.

I just tried disconnecting the neg battery cable and it still won't start. Plus it is starting to crank slow and there is a screw in the front tire causing a slow leak!

Did I fry my ECU?

Should I convert it back to '04 and try to un-marry it?

I going to go check the initialization connector for a loose wire but I am sorta scared the I may have screwed up.

Any help?

Brian

I dont what happened but when i bought an 04 AP i downloaded the 05 update before i married to my car. To do that you just hold both the arrow buttons when powering on the AP

I swapped in a new ECU and just sent the damaged ECU and AP to Cobb to unmarry.

I thought I had researched enough before attempting the flash/conversion but oh well. Live and learn.

The new ECU was $155 shipped from a salvage yard and the AP fix from COBB was about $80 (including the shipping back and forth.

All is well now and a valuable lesson was learned.
