View Full Version : Gruppe-S Hood Shock Dampers just released ($79!)

Gruppe-S

Hey guys,

We have put together a great package for the hood shock dampers for you guys. We are getting the shocks from the same place all the JDM companies are. We then investment cast and precision CNC machined the adapters so they are guaranteed to fit and not wear. Overall we didn't do anything revolutionary - we just brought the price down on a great product!

If you are annoyed by the stock hood prop that keeps falling out of its rubber grommet, this is a great upgrade for you :)

Are these ok to install on CF hoods? I was looking at getting NRG CF struts but they recommend against using them with CF hoods.

Hi,

They are ok to use with CF hoods as long as your hood hinge is connected the same as it is with the OEM hood. The weight of a CF hood and an aluminum hood is about the same - so the weight isn't an issue, however if the hood is poorly constructed it may fracture.

Finally got my hood dampers yesterday, but they did not come with instructions. Are the instructions posted on your web site somewhere?

I have them installed, but I'd like verification as to the orientation of the hood connections.

Looks right, but I can't see very clearly. Basically you want to make sure the bracket locks onto the outcrop on the hood so it doesn't spin as pressure is put on it. :)

Thanks.

That's how I did it. The ridge of the hood connector rides over the edge of the hood latch. That is the passenger side, and if you look real close, you can see the square "dimples" on the connector mounted to the hood...and on the drivers side, the square dimples do not show. So it looks right, huh?

One other question, once installed...does one move the "lock nut" on the other side of the damper towards the front of the car (up against the ball connector) or towards the damper itself?

Talk to Zak @ Gruppe-S. There are instructions available (thanks to me whining :) ).

Now... according to the "official" instructions, you have your "cones" on the wrong end of the damper. When I looked at them, it seemed stupid to me (still does), but that's how I installed them -- the official way I was told. Perhaps the instructions are wrong.

Dear Nasioc customers,

Due to inaccurate deadlines stated by our manufacturer, we are currently backordered on these hood dampers. However, they are being assembled as quickly as possible and will be air freighted at our own cost. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us by pm or phone. Thank you all for your patience.

Hi,

The hood dampers just came in. As lame as it sounds our supplier airfreighted the shocks in to us via UPS, they found our Hayward warehouse empty (we're now in Lake Forest) and sent it back to the supplier. After paying customs twice and double the airfreight we FINALLY received them today. They are being packaged and shipped out as we speak. We're very sorry about the delay and thank you very much for your patience.

Also the carbon fiber (silver / black available) prototypes came in today! :)

Thanks,

Gary

Gruppe-S

These are fairly universal, but these may not support the weight of the supra hood, and also the mounting points would have to be determined by the installer. They might work, but no guarantees.

After I installed mine like the instructions, the hood will slam very hard when lowering the hood.

Is this how it is suppose to function?

I thought it would lower the hood slowly when closing, but it just drops down very fast.

Thast weird. Do me a favor, check the compression of the damper on both sides. Does one side feel more soft than the other? Or is their a ny oil leaking. Om me the results.

Gruppe-S

Carbon units are a little more then our standard units. This is our second batch of the hood dampers, and so far throughout our first and second batches, this is our first incident of rust that I know of. These dampers are made of stainless steel, which we all know isn't supposed to rust, but sometimes do. Given the right(or wrong) conditions these may rust, but we will definitely take care of warranties, we do not expect anymore incidents.

Thanks,
Gruppe-S

Thanks for the response. Not all Stainless steel is created equal. Many times low grades are alloys that contain metals that will indeed corode or rust. I'm not sure what you got. Sometimes metals differ from batch to batch as well.

I'll agree sometimes these variables are hard to control. Thanks for the feedback and good luck with 'em.

Gruppe-S, hey i just installed them correctly and they definitely broke...the hood fell on my head, luckly didn't get hurt or bend the hood. I had everything tight and the pins in and when i lifted the hood back up after testing it comming down, they let loose and the part where the pin is that connects to the hood, along with the metal on the damper. The ball part wouldn't stay in it was bent so bad and the hole where the pin goes through broke off so i can't even get the pins back in...i had to toss them. Can i somehow get my money back, considering i almost killed myself? I don't want another pair. Thanks...

Ben,

I received the hardware I needed in the mail yesterday.

Thanks!

yo14jman, pm me your info, I will have those dampers picked up from you, if you could box them up. I will make sure to get you a full refund, but we would like to see the problems in case this is a issue with all the dampers.

WRXLTD, glad you enjoy them!

Sorry but Mods dont allow us to change thread titles ( I have already PM'ed twice)
The $79 was a special pre sale price. The current sale price is $99 as stated in the thread.
Mods... Please give paying vendors the ability to edit thread titles.
