View Full Version : airbag light mod - do front bags still function?
scooby monster 04-24-2007, 03:44 PM Don't flame me I read the thread on adding a 3.3ohm resistor to the yellow connector. I have them but have yet to try them. My question is does this just turn out the light or does it disable the whole airbag system and I won't have any front airbags?
Somebody let me know I want the safety of the front airbags but have had the light since installing aftermarket seats.
Thanks.
scooby monster 04-25-2007, 02:32 PM Simple question I know there are plenty of you with these resistors out there!
xrocket21 04-25-2007, 03:47 PM It will only turn out the light, the rest of the air bags will operate normally.

rougeben83 04-25-2007, 08:36 PM What I want to know is...how was this mod tested to make sure? :D
littlewhitewagon 04-25-2007, 09:18 PM Exactly...the idea is the resistor will trick the SRS module to think that the occupant is in the seat, but I don't know of anyone with first hand knowledge yet...who is willing to try?
scooby monster 04-26-2007, 07:38 PM My theory is that the airbag has to pose a certain resistance to the circuit. When the bag is gone or deployed the circuit opens and the light lights. The resistor should load the circuit thus the light should go out and all should be well. Any scooby techs on her that could verify?
Got the resistors today. They also make a flame proof resistor so I went with that one. This weekend we'll try it out.
potential 05-02-2007, 12:24 PM how do you add the resister to the harness?
scooby monster 05-02-2007, 01:39 PM There should be a yellow connector under the seat. Bend the resistor so the prongs fit into that connector. You may want to trim them a bit and jam it all the way in there. Then use some black electrical tape to tape it all up. I ordered some flame proof resistors online for this. 3.3 ohm. Worked like a charm for me. The light is now gone. Do both sides and you should be good to go. So you need two resistors (one for each side).
potential 05-03-2007, 10:50 PM what site did you order the resistors from?

Dude, if you car is on fire...airbag deployment is the least of your worries, well unless you burst into flames @ 65mph.

Uhm MCM Electronics.
PM me your mailing address and I'll send ya 2 if you want.
skibumm3 05-08-2007, 11:02 PM I am wondering if thsi will work for a dash swap. I have a 2000 but i am trying to put in an 04 dash, with the driver and passenger bags still working. what do you think, can i use resistors to fool the system into thinking the side airbags are there?
also where could i get a SRS control module new, and how much would it be.
scooby monster 05-08-2007, 11:39 PM This is a fix for side bags located in the seats. Not all 04's had side bags so your cluster may not even show a light. As far as the module goes: check these boards under part outs, and eBay, and your local dealer.
cpunlamd 10-03-2008, 04:51 PM I have recently installed a set of Bride Gias seats in my 07 STI. After reading all the posts for the 3.3ohm resistor, I went ahead and bought a few. I just plugged them into the yellow plugs, but the airbag light is still on.
HELP!
littlewhitewagon 10-17-2008, 11:58 AM The 07 has detection bladders. If those are missing, the light will come on too. The 3.3 is only for the airbag detection.

The resistor takes care of the airbags, but on 06 and up you also have a seat position sensor and a weight sensor in the passenger seat. All must be addressed to get the light to go off. Search and you will find the answers.
