hey all,
I just bought a new, well, new to me 98 rs. There are some vents on the hood that are not functional, what would happen if i were to open the vents? Does it matter if they are open or closed, are they only for show?

open em' up, i dont see why not. theyre there for show mainly. like a lot of the mustangs that have those pointless vent looking things as well. make sure its not going to affect anything though. you dont want it raining and having water poor into your intake or straight on your very hot block...

They're only for looks, but if you were to take them off they would let heat escape.

P.S. Not my car. Just a cool pic from years ago.

I've had my vents and scoop off for about two weeks now. Not by choice, i'm just doing some mods and I'm to lazy to reattach them. Anyway, in that time period I drove through some nasty rain storms and my car alarm started randomly going off every 20 min or so. I don't know if the rain was the cause, it could just be a coincident.

I live in seattle where it rains pretty much every day except the 2 months in summer. You'll be fine with your backing plates off. plus it allows hot air to escape

in extreamly cold temps combined with high speeds you may notice a huge drop in the operating temp of the engine
by that i mean driving the car 140kph in -40C temps your temp gauge will drop to the needle

Have pics of the car? I was looking at one in Olympia and decided against it.
