View Full Version : Help on 2002 2.5RS Pricing.
Vigorous 05-31-2001, 07:08 PM Hey guys, I'm new to this forum and the Subaru scene. I wanna buy a 2002 2.5RS since I dont have the money for the WRX.
1)How much did you guys buy your RS for? After Title, License, etc?
2)Did you get any options thrown in? Spoiler, foglights, etc.
Thanks. Peace.
makua11b 05-31-2001, 07:17 PM I sell Subarus and a 2002 RS should go for about $800 to $1000 over invoice. Although it's an RS and not a WRX there is as of yet not an over abundance of them which will keep the cost up. I've read here that Van Bortell (sp?) in NY or NJ, I can't remember which, is selling even the WRX at only $500 over the invoice. There's plenty of resources on the web to get invoice costs at.
b_tapper 05-31-2001, 07:29 PM A 2002 2.5 RS is good choice.
A good number to shoot for is about $1500 off sticker price

HoratioCaine 06-01-2001, 01:00 AM If you're running Windows (of any flavor) go to carpoint.msn.com and go through their auto-pricer. It's pretty slick. Then you have to figure out tax and licensing and such. That's easy enough though... Licensing here in Seattle area is like 100-130ish for a nice car, then multiply purchase price by local tax rate (about 1.09 depending on where you live, your city may vary). That should give you a very good estimate on purchase price out the door.
vmetelit 06-01-2001, 08:03 AM 2-3% over invoice is a fair deal. Check out www.edmunds.com (http://www.edmunds.com) for the invoice prices.
MrHorspwer 06-01-2001, 10:01 AM My bottom line price(tax, license and all that good stuff) came to right about what the MSRP was for the car. I'm pretty sure the selling price was about $600 above invoice.

Wow! I got mine for $299 over invoice. Cool...
e_a_olson 06-01-2001, 02:38 PM I paid $750 over invoice.
Asinus 06-01-2001, 02:46 PM Yo Vigorous, whereabouts in Houston are you? I'm getting RS soon too.

Vigorous 06-03-2001, 12:17 PM How are you guys getting the RS for so cheap? I just went to the dealership and they had a figure of $19,800 for a 5-spd. So drive out would be around $20,600+.
How can I get the car cheaper? Is it all the options that they put on it, that make it so much more? Should I just order a base base model, one without all the options, and just buy all the parts that I wanted online/aftermarket?

Poseidon 06-06-2001, 10:04 AM Like everyone said, do your homework. www.edmunds.com (http://www.edmunds.com) has all the information you need to figure out what the invoice price of the car is, including options. If you don't know, invoice is what the dealership pays to buy the car from the factory, and it is much lower than the MSRP, which is printed on the window sticker. Once you know the invoice price, you can figure out what a fair price for the car is. Edmunds.com usually suggests that about 3% over invoice is fair. So with that information in hand, go to the dealership, tell them what features you want, and they'll give you a price. If the price is significantly more than what you calculated as fair, then you have two choices: 1) haggle with them to try and get the price down (edmunds.com also has advice for this part of the buying process), or 2) go to a different dealership.
Hope this helps

Kirby 06-06-2001, 10:10 AM if your a memeber of AAA they have a new car buying program where the dealer has to sell the car to you for a certain amount over the invoice. You have to call AAA and set up a appointment with one of their dealers though.
Kostamojen 06-08-2001, 12:42 AM $150 over invoice for order, $500 over invoice if its on the lot already...
Vigorous 06-08-2001, 01:52 AM Let me ask a stupid question:
Can I go to the dealership and say, "I want to buy directly from Subaru and pay just Invoice + Destination charge." ? That would mean no haggling over the price right? Since I wouldn't have to worry about the dealership making that much money. Or am I missing something?
