Anybody knows if installing a turbo (legally) would impact insurance, and in what way? Specifically, in Vancouver, come AirCare time, what needs to be done to car to make sure it passes given that the whole exhaust system is changed?
Thanks.
Wonder if anyone in Canada got a turbo/supercharged RS?

I have contacted Minam Racing in Richmond regarding installing a turbocharger for my RS. Their reply was that it *should* pass air care. Whether it will or not, I don't know. I won't be getting my turbo for another five months or so (bank account running a little dry).
I did not ask them about how much more the insurance is going to cost, but I am sure they will be happy to answer your questions.

kgb,
I've got my RS supercharged (Rimmer). In Ontario there's nothing like AirCare to worry about.
I had an accident (hit a pole) which damaged the front badly (~$10K). The insurance company covered it - "As long as you don't race your car" they said.
"No ma'am, I never race my car." http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smile.gif

5 Zigen,
Rimmer no longer offers the type of sysyem I've got (Eaton blower). Their new system uses the Autorotor blower. Its a new kit, so I would recommend waiting until you hear good things about it, first hand, from people who've actually installed it and are running it.
So far I'm happy with my setup. The performance is fantastic, but I'm still running lean - I'm work'n on it.

In US funds - I paid $3495. Rimmer did the install for $300.
My car now puts out about 225HP to 235HP depending on the ambient temperature.

wow...so that's roughly $5000sth CAD installed? that's not a bad deal...
and $300 installed (US or CAD?) is also a pretty reasonable price too...seems like not too much work has to be done in order to FIT the kit in....

For all Toronto (and surrounding) impreza owners, Motronix is developing a new supercharger system based on the eaton blower. It should go for a decent price too. Motronix is building a reputation as being a good company to deal with in Toronto.
Check out http://25rs.tsx.org for more info, go to the links section to find out how o get in touch with motronix.
