View Full Version : EasyUp Hood Dampers by GrimmSpeed

Want relief from that stupid hood support always being in your way? We introduce our newest product, EasyUp Hood Dampers.

Unlike other hood dampers, our struts are inverted which reduces the risk of strut failure. Being inverted, the seal between the housing and the shaft is always lubricated. If you have a strut(like the others) where the housing is on the fender side facing up, over time the seal will fail because the seal is not in the oil bath and the wiper will dry out (if there is one) and grit will eventually get in it.

We also have a controlled valve so that at the end of the stroke it does not pop.

-Product is designed to work in both hot and cold climates
-Hardware is corrosion resistant
-NO drilling or rivetting required
-Installation is 20 minutes or less (honestly 10 mintes)using hand tools
-Uses Stock bolts and locations
-Looks like they are stock from the factory!
-Hood is only assisted when hood is opened past 45 deg.
-Piece is made out of high quality lifters and chrome Shafts
-Gets the stock hood prop out of your way once and for all!
-Opens the hood higher than the stock hood prop

$89.99

Can be purchased here:

Did you install the hood plates in the right orientation? I screwed the pooch the first time around by having the damper body on the inside of the plate rather than the outside; hood wouldn't close right and I was really annoyed.

Thankfully, I found the install instructions on the GrimmSpeed page (those should have been there from the start, Justin! :) ) and realized my error before writing an angry PM...

i've heard a few other companies' hood dampers on the market have been rusting alot...have any grimmspeed customers had issues with ours rusting at all? our test set with ~3k miles on it has zero rust.

All the hardware is made of stainless steel
Depending on which version you got the swivel is either stainless or plated
steel or aluminium.
The dampers are all the same - painted steel with coated shaft

Usable with CF hood?

seeing as most carbon fiber hoods weigh about the same as the stock aluminum one then yes they should work totally fine. you wont need to worry about the hood cracking or anything because the damper bolts through the hood bracket..no directly into the hood.

have this question into one of my guys who is working on the hood damper products..should have an answer soon.

will this work on the heavier RS hoods?

yes and no. yes it will hold up a heavier hood, no it wont fit because subaru changed up the bolt pattern on the fender so it doesnt line up correctly on the 93-01 imprezas.

I bought a set of Tein's about 3 weeks ago for my wagon, and since then my roomate bought a set of your hood dampers for his STi. From Installing both sets, and comparing both side by side, I have to admit, I'm probably going to sell my Tein's in favor for yours. I think in the wet/cold climate of Canada, yours will out perform the Tein's hands down. Due to the dust boots that should keep the moisture out of the pivot points, and the black anodized piston rod I believe should prevent corrosion from forming. The only thing I would love to see improved on your set, would be to coat the screws/washers that screw into the top of the fender with something to prevent the bare metal from corroding.

Just got my struts and have 2 things to say.
1. They went on very easy, like 5 minutes! And they work better than could be expected. Easily drop close the hood and when it opens you can just let the hood go and a foot from the top it slowly comes to a relaxing stop at the top. Assume!
2. But, you just drop shipped them from ixizconcept.com, which is not a problem but you charge $89 for the struts and they have 2 types, a standard set for $78 and a set with all stainless parts for $87. And I got the standard set sent to me from you for $89!! I could have ordered the stainless set direct on their website for less than I paid from grimmspeed. I love the struts but would really have preferred the stainless and even woulden't have minded a few bucks more from you for the stainless set. BUT....to be charged more for the standard set when I could have just as easily ordered the stainless set for less directly from ixiz just makes me feel cheated and unfortunately makes me very hesitant to order anything else from grimspeed.
