I have had 2 Subies (old bugeye, new/current pignose) and now my 93 1.8L Wagon. No pics, yet b/c I'm ashamed of how it looks.

I picked it up as a daily driver, runs fine and all that. Need to get on 25rs and learn more there.

As for now, how often to people have 1 key for the doors, and a seperate key for ignition? I hate buying used cars.

How rusty are your cars? Seriously, did they not know about corrosion prevention back in the day?

How much are high mileage services costing you guys?

It's an automatic and it has almost no power, barely even moves going up hills and have to rag on it a bit to get it up to traffic speeds.

How off are other people's speedo's? Mine has stock wheels and stock tire size but, I have never seen a car be that far off, 47mph=40mph and 74mph=60mph. Holy crap, didn't notice it too much til I got it on the freeway.

W/ all the bad stuff wrong w/ it, I'm going to try and fix it up a bit and get it looking cleanish and make sure it's super reliable. After all, it is my daily and it needs to be super reliable. I could just drive the 06 but, I don't want to put the miles on it. (60-80 miles/day)

Also, what gas are you guys using? okay for 87? What about gas mileage?

Well, I bought a 93L AWD wagon back in December. The engine has had a few little probs here and there, fuel pump, suspension blown, brakes shot, but nothing major. My Power steering leaks and Ive had 4 torn cv boots. Thats about it, lol. I was somewhat ashamed of how it looked at first too.

Right now, I just add PS fluid every month or so. ANd oil here and there since the oil pump leaks. It drives great though.

I use 87 octane in AZ, and its just fine. Its like 110 outside and it runs the same as ever. I have 150,000 miles on it, and it gets about 21-24mpg. It is rated at 22-24mpg, so its not bad at all. I have a manual though.

So far, I replaced the suspension with KYB GR2 Struts and 2.5RS Eibach Prokit Springs. It was lowered about 1.25" and looks/handles a million times better. I also put some Brembos and EBC greenstuff pads on. That all cost about 600. Not bad. Im also getting paint.

RS25 is a great site to learn about your car, and the people are MUCH MUCH nicer than NASIOC. No offense to you all.

Oh, and I had almost no rust on my car. Maybe like the size of a quarter if you put all the rust in one spot. But this is an AZ car and we never get rain, only 6 or 8 days a year

lol, Subaru paint and anti rusting agents suck. I've seen some rust forming on all 1/4 panels for pre RS era Imprezas

Not a spot of rust on ours, and we live in PA, land of road salt.
Your lack of power is a combination of the slushbox and the 1.8. Worst combo you could choose to go fast. ;)
We now have the 2 key life also as the ignition switch wore out at about 165,000.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I've been really busy at work so, no time to get on any sites. Hmm, I might have to take my car to maaco soon, as well. I don't need anything fancy just some body repairs/rust repairs and a cheap paint job. I don't mind the dark green, it's just a worn out Subie that needs to be freshened up.

My HS buddy was telling me about RS25 since, he has a 00RS. Jealous? A lil, and he is of my 06.

P.S. what color is that? Almost has a brown tint to it. I <3 the brown tint to it. Meh, Lexus has a color that does and I want it! :D The 02-04 wheels look good, too.

My buddy still has a set on his car that I gave him, maybe it's time I take em back. hehe. When I go bigger brakes on the 06, my stocers were going on his and his stockers might go on the 93 to have some aw disk brakes. (his is a bugeye)

Java Black Pearl. Its got a nice brown pearl to it. From far looks black, than about 10 feet away, you start seeing a nice Brown pearl to it.

Its supposed to be a 2 stage paint, but I only had it done in 1 stage to save money. It made it more of a brown than the factory subaru color which I was hoping.

Im pretty happy with it. If you want the pearl completely even, pay the extra for a 2 stage paintjob

how much was the paint job anyhow? any dents/dings you had removed in the process? Mine has some rust and such I would like repaired and need to find a decent place to get it done while not charging an arm and a leg.

The car you bought is in the realm of my searching..

the speedo error could indicate a need for thorough refresh of tranny fluids, repacking all axles with the best grease you can buy (omg- 6 bucks for 420 degree synthetic-) gas mileage increases, etc. the little engines reveal the drag the most. 5 mains on an impreza 1.8, is slower than a 1781cc little sube engine of the 80s, even with the giant intake.(my 2wd old 1781cc ate 2.2 n/a's like they were a kids toy)
the rust problems are every car with steel, once and awhile there is fantastic paint codes revealing the winners 20 years later (my area has a few old subes untouched and beaten daily). The imprezas unfortunately, got plain jane everything. In fact, I noticed that outcome on nasoic in the threads for car colors. Aspen white (or any oem phosphourescent) seems to be a winner as usual. That is so cheaply pathetic, but it is the way it is.
Godd luck on your sube, I will be babbling about my first older impreza soon enough.alot of wht thier oldest relaistic 4wds taught me will be applied. I see a crazy engine now in the newer ones and count on all the little things that went wrong in the older happeneing to the new. the benefit of more servicable is the only reason I want to evolve into the crazy engine. There is no other boxers left

I have a 1996 1.8 AWD. I put wrx size tries and rims on it and now the speedo is right on. I cheched with GPS. So I could see how your speedo could read about 5 mph faster then you are realy going.

Yeah, my poor 93 has so many problems, it's crazy. It's not like it's only 5mph off, more like 15mph off at 60mph. So, yeah. And the trans fluidon the auto looks like regular oil I sure as heck hope it's not gear oil, that would be a stupid stupid thing for the previous owner to do.

It cost like 1250 from maaco. They removed the bumpers, sanded and primed them as well as the roof, hood and hatch. THey fixed a lot of dings, but there are still like 20 small ones. It looks much better though. It also looks really green int he day. Almost more green than brown or black. Here are some other pics from the other day.

I love my little wagon now. Its coming along. Just needs a new engine now. Aesthetics and suspension/brakes are sufficient for now
