heres my latest fast run...I had 2 faster runs...but with cones...:)

enjoy

Bill

BSP STi RIP 5-27 1st run (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHxLa6VmSRE)

The G's are set up to read up to 2.0G's....so unless I hit 2.0..it isn't going all the way over to the left or right....same for braking and throttle...the peak red/blue is max g's I was getting left and right...which at this particular track...was about 1.2 peak with a sustained 1.0 pretty consistantly...so half way was about 1g...I would attach my actual logs...but you guys don't have the software to read it...so it wouldn't benefit you guys anyways...

I did overlay my fast run with Mike Kings fast run where he did the option...the Honduh peaked about 1.04 g....and sustained about .88 or so....there was lots of sliding also...I was pretty even with him till the last 2 sets of offset gates where he took a closer line and didn't have the steering input that I did...(Larger slip angle, less steering...)...he finished roughly 12 ft ahead of me...:)...but I coned... Oh..4 ft = about 1/10th of sec...which is pretty interesting to know...

the program I am using for the overlay is from Trackvision.net...It takes the Data file that I make and combines it with the video..I would like to have a dashboard that accurately shows all that...but I havn't found one yet...I will continue to pursue that tho...
oh the 4 ft per 10th is good for 50 mph...It is a varible according to speed...

In my run I missed 3rd gear...had a 2 sec delay to get it into gear....otherwise...it would have been faster...

I probably didn't choose the best lines thru all that...I wasn't thinkin..so I actually forgot which way to go....I was very inconsistant driving this weekend...(took different lines, didn't concentrate, 3 cones on one run and 5 on the last one doesn't help either and basically drove like crap.)..But I learned something....also...and as long as I can learn something it's not a total loss...I learned a couple of things:
-shifting needs to be seamless..
-faster thru the slalom one way...should be as fast coming back...
-Car has decent grip...and I didn't utilize the maximum adhesion at ANY point during the runs...
-I had a hi of 65 MPH thru one section of a run...only to come back @58 and didnt realize I was actually going slower thru that section...
-Didn't attack....just kinda lackadaisically drove...
-Trust the car more....
-pick a line and stick with it...

Its good some of you guys pick up on some of that...especially since 3 runs is all you get at a national event....so its key for me to take my own advice..:)..Which is why I have all this datalogging stuff in the first place...to make me drive more consistant...and be a better driver....I am just learning what the data I am collecting is giving me...so I still have a ways to go...same with the video....like Hand position...I not even thinking about that...till its all done..but I need to...:)

Some stuff I have learned data logging:

-my slalom speed is pretty consistant...for the most part...I avg'd 48 mph going down thru the slalom...on to avg 51 mph coming back..It should be even...so there is some time there...
-Parts of the course I am not letting the car do what it needs to...kinda tippietoeing thru some sections..relying on the power of the car to make up the difference...( My guess is its from fear of spinning, which makes it interesting because I have subconsciously set my car up for slight understeer) I am probably pushing the car about 95%...so theres time there also..
-my throttle and braking is decent....just letting the car roll to much...according to the manual...you should be either on the gas or brake....never coasting or waiting to make something happen..
-my line could be smoother
-my steering could be smoother also..

Just a couple of things I am learning from this stuff..:)

I posted this in my local thread....but figured some of you could get something out of it also....:)

Comments welcome...Sorry there is a part of the video that skips...trying to fix that...just need to figure out what it is...I think its my capture program...

Enjoy...

History says you've had somewhat of an issue finding 3rd in your car. Is it possible that fluid or shifter(don't know if you have a short-shift in the car) can be the cause? That would help on all runs.

Not just mine..I think there are alot of guys out there having the same issue...
Shifter is a KB..With TIC Bushings..and such...Fluid could be the problem..as its stock...I have a small 5th gear Syncro issue non-related to this..there are going to change the fluid out to try and fix the syncro issue...so we'll see..

sometimes it goes...sometimes it doesn't...usually I have to shift thru the gears before I start...wasn't an issue on subsequent runs..:)

IMO opinion going into 3rd sucks as well..I have a thought process about it and I feel myself taking time to make sure it's right before I let the clutch out and it's probably costing me...

Bill - this is all really cool info....if you bring it to Peru can we try it in my car for a run? It would be neat to see 2 different cars on the same course in the same class.

out of curiostiy, do you have the accelerometer located at or as close to CG as you can get it?...otherwise comparing data is kinda useless...I ask because you stated that you had it in tow vehicles

what system are you using and what sensors do you have for it?

its pretty transferable....but since you will probably be right next to me in grid...I can alter the runs with you...I get it for the first run...you can have it for 2nd run...then back to me on the third run...
then Sunday we can switch..you 1 and 3 and me #2....are you video'ing also..if so..I can overlay your video with the data...and that way we see the differences..

:)

PS>..Still bugging Steve..

MaxQdata GPS...and its on the dash where the manufactor recomended it...on a flat surface..

As for the the tow vehicles??? not sure there...I have only had it in my STi on the dash..then switched it to s STX Honduh...on the dash as well..Dead Center..

Hopefully..that answers your question>>>????

I meant two...the sti and the honda...
I find it quite interesting that the data aq company didn't care that it wasn't located at/near the CG...every data system I've used or researched had said to place it there/near. Pi was the most set on it as they repeated it about a million times...

maxQ rocks!

just an FYI- maxQgps doesn't use accelerometers.. it does some math calcs with gps so it doesn't matter how you position it in the car. as long as it acquires a decent # of sats.

i did a bunch of writeups analyzing maxQgps data with some fast codrivers.

just poke around in the history and you'll find them.

i think data aq is most useful when you codrive the same car and compare.
