This problem is on my brother's 97' OBS. I don't know where the heck the interior fuse box is located. Help would be good right now.

there's no door on the dash or in the engine bay?

Check for a fuse access door under the dash on the drivers side.

the only door there is for the OBD2 port.

The panel may be on the side of the dash and the driver's door needs to open to access it.

That means I would have to remove the lower drivers side panel to access it because there is no door to get there.

I looked in my service data and it says the fuse panel is behind the dash on the left side of the steering column. The main panel is under the hood on the left side of the engine compartment.

I'll check it out later on.

I checked it out today. Found the fuse box and checked all the fuses. All of them were still intact. Don't know where else to look.

Please help..

I'm starting to think its the alternator now, battery ran out of juice and the car doesn't start now.

For the gauge light problem I assume you have checked the dimmer control to make sure it isn't in the wrong position. I would check the connnection to the lights there to see what the voltage is.

The battery problem is a seperate issue I think. The alternator may have a problem or possibly the wiring to it. I would have the charging system checked out to see how well it is working. Check the battery connections and clean them.

Cougar, Where is the dimmer control? Is it at a different place on Subies. On my other cars its located to the left of the steering column.

The battery was ruled out when I tested it with my battery tester. I was able to fully charge the battery again. The alternator was also tested by a local auto parts store today and it checked out fine. Except there was something rattling inside the alternator. Old guy behind the counter says that rattling inside could be causing shorts. He aslo says it could be a bad ground.

I need to make a decision here.

I don't own a Impreza but the light control on my Outback is on the turn signal stalk.

If the alternator worked fine on the bench then I would guess it is ok. Have the system load tested with everything connected and see if the charging system works as it should. Both of the smaller wires going to the alternator should have close to battery voltage on them when the engine is running.

Could be you blew the illuminator module. This is easy to do if you short out certain connections (ie: hook up wrong) especially with a stereo install. TWO of my friends (who are colorblind and couldnt tell the difference between a RED wire or a GREEN wire) did this while trying to install stereos in their cars (color blind people should not play with wires or be on bombsquads  ) and both had to replace the illum module. Be prepared to pay like $200 for this from the dealer (IIRC) or try to find one from a recycler. I think I have an extra one from a MY2000 Impreza RS but it may not be the same for a 1997 OBS. Check the Part #s and if it is and you need it, PM me. You can have mine for $70 shipped. :)
