Hey everyone-

Back to the boards for me with a new sound. I am trying to figure out if its a hub bearing or a differential problem. The difference is about $1000 from what I understand, so I am hoping its just a hub bearing.

I have brought the car to many people to look at, and none of them have been able to help pinpoint the noise or the cause.

It has been suggested that its a rear hub bearing and it has been suggested that its a rear dif. I am not able to pull the car apart to diagnose so I am relying on others to help.

If I am going straight I can hear a slight rubbing noise coming from what I think is the rear. If I bank the car to the right I can really hear it rubbing.

This may be unrelated, but when I turn the car to a hard left and hit the gas I can hear a metallic rattling sound that does not stop until the wheels are straightened out.

Right now the only people who have been able to offer any help has been the Subaru dealer, I am hesitant to bring it to the dealer since the labor alone on a rear diff rebuild is $840.

I am in the Philadelphia area (zip code 18974) and if there is someone else in the area who would be willing to look please let me know, otherwise any suggestions would be much appreciated before I go get charged out the rear from Subaru.

Thanks,
Ohm
