I think the brighton only comes in the wagon right? But yea, go for the TS, it is a really good buy for that amount of money.

Hey mazmay, I've got the TS cuz that was what I could afford when I bought my car last year. I think its a great car and you can prob get a pretty good deal on them.. What kind of options do you want? I mean the TS has alot of goodies standard, but not as much as the RS of course.. And I'm starting to mod the 2.2L and I think its fine since I'm not going to out race. How much is the Brighton anyways??

Okay, I've got a question for all you Specialists out there:
I am looking to buy a subaru, sadly i cannot afford to buy an RS, and a TS would be seriously stretching it (trying to buy my own place at the same time) so my question to you is; Is the more affordable brighton impreza any good?
On the SPD website it mentions something about brightons having lesser running gear (rear differential and axle shafts are mentioned)

Is that right? the brighton comes with the 2.2L engine etc. so is it only cheaper b/c it is very bare or because it has lesser running gear?

I would like to eventually do some mods to the car (nothing drastic) butwould the car be less of a platform to work on b/c of it's faults?

or should i wait and try to buy 2nd hand subie (hardly any out there tho')
or a freaking civic like everyone else!!

If you can swing it, get the TS, I have one and am pleased, although at this point, I can afford to upgrade to an RS. In terms of upgrade paths, I have researched quite a bit. The 2.2 engine may be better for big upgrades, since it is not as "stretched" as the 2.5. Also, it shares the same dampers as the RS, just softer springs (easily fixed). Essentially the same car, only thing you miss out on is 1" bigger wheels, four wheel disk and ABS + sunroof.

I would like to do some major upgrades to my car, but am hesitant as I have both a 4AET and the yearning for a sunroof, so I am torn between modding, or trading up to an RS (somewhat pricey).

Where are you? Would you be interested in taking my lease? The duration would be a little over 3 years left on the lease. Black, fully loaded, tints, with only 16,ooo km on it.

The brighton costs about 17-18K, while the TS started around 22-23K. That is a pretty considerable difference!
As far as options are concerned, I'm not a gadget guy, I'll be happy with pwindows,plocks, and of course manual.

It is already amazing to me that you can get an AWD vehicle for a few thousand more than a basic civic.

I actually emailed Mike Shields, and he said that there is nothing wrong withthe current canadian brighton wagon.
Maybe he only meant that the older 1.8L was weaker.

It'll be nice to get a funky car like a subie station wagon and try to make it look like the WRX wagons(don't quite have the money to make it Go like a WRX!!). also i wouldn't feel too bad about changing the brighton front bumper to a WRX style since it is a foglight-less bare bumper.

Well, just think of the Brighton wagon as an OBS, without the jacked-up suspension and alloy wheels. We essentially all have the same car/chassis. Also, the engine on the Brighton, is no longer the dinky 1.8l engine -- it shares the 2.2l that the TS and OBS uses -- in fact, I believe that the 2.2l use to be used also in the lower-end Legacys -- not any more though.
