Okay, I would just like to write a tutorial on how to install these plug n play kits because when i was searching around the forums... i felt like i had to read about 10 different threads to figure out what I needed to do!

Tools: Your car!
10mm wrench
1 long flat screw driver(to push on the tabs for the grill)
1 very thin flat screw driver(to pop those snap on bolts)
2 Pairs of latex gloves
Patience!

Kit includes EVERYTHING you need. it even gives you 4 zip tides and 2 double-sided padded adhesive. Wires are all here for the 07wrx!

Above: This is the passenger side after removing the air duct(2 bolts, easy to do no need for photo hopefully) Take off the cap by screwing it counter clock wise a little(if facing the car from hood to trunk) and it will come out easily. Then you need to disconnect the plug shown that supplies power to the bulb. Next is to squeeze the top of the two metal prongs(as shown in the Impreza Manual) and remove bulb. Insert new HID bulb into the slot. Be VERY VERY VERY VERY careful as not to touch any bulb with anything!! I used some latex gloves when I was handling both old and new bulbs. Just make sure it's absolutely uncontaminated with your greasy body oil coming out of your sebasious glands of your dermis.
DRILL HOLE ON THE CAPS!!!! 23mm but 1inch recommended. This hole is to allow the wires for the bulb to ballast to pass through.

Above: Connect up the wires, it's very easy because only 1 fits another. I did this step here just to test out the ballast and see if the lights actually work.

Above: I read on the forum here that subaru did the color wires wrong for positive and negative and what not.... but in MY CASE, in this 2007 wrx wagon, The colors of the wires are indeed correctly made. Red goes to Red, Black goes to Black.

9. Here comes the MOST ANNOYING PART of HID installs... finding a place for the huge bulky ballasts!!!! I basically spent maybe 2 hours trying to fit mine everywhere so that I don't have to take off the headlights. Sadly I ended up shifting my headlights slightly outward and putting the ballast underneath it on both passenger and driver's side. Thank goodness for the doublesided adhesive pad that was included in my kit! Other people have used industrial strength velcro or just zip tied their ballast to something(like the washer fluid container that I saw one guy do.

Since this part is actually quite painful to do, I will just refer you to Silver_04_WRX_SC's awesome thread.

Undo all the snap on bolts by using a very flat screw driver and just pop these badboys out. Then remove the grills by reaching in between the very small space available from the hood latch and push on the pins to allow the center grill to come out first. then do the side grills.

Next unbolt these 4 bad boys (10mm nut) so the headlight is no longer attached to this side. There's also 1 10mm bolt and 1 snap on - on top. Sorry my description here is flakey but I hope you would refer to the original post to figure out how to remove it.

Above: Where I put my ballast! It fits fine with the box not completely sitting on the body because it's sorta wedged there with a small portion of the ballast sitting on air. This step I just loosen the headlights and slide it out enough (not completely taken out) so I have enough space for me to squeeze the ballast under the headlight and adhere it on to the body.
Hints: Passenger side - I moved the fluid container(power steering? i forgot now actually) so i have more space for my hand to work.
Driver side - Remove battery completely so you can have access to the projector cap. It's necessary!! I also moved the washer fluid container a little out of the way here.

Above: I made a quick tutorial on how to unplug the DRL in 07 wrx(only works for 07. If you're 06, go in the glove and find the relay for it. This method works for HID conversion kits if it's using the factory wiring for power. It worked for me!

Nice job on the write up, im sure a lot of members will appreciate it.

One thing to note, you seem to be upset with the glare, and yes thats normal for that projector, you didnt install anything wrong. Your current looks perfect as far as alignment...

Also, spending only a few extra bucks I could of gave you the OEM STi setup. Your right you wouldnt get those cool 6000k bulbs, but OEM>Kaixen all day long buddy :)

The width on those projectors is a joke though, no offense. And you can see hot spots, which is just that fact that your still using halogen projectors, atleast thats what I think.

At least retro and do it right, the difference is amazing.

btw if you guys are judging the width by the last picture... then it's unjust because it's actually a 10mm shot and everything is warped =) It's as wide/wider than my halogen projectors.

yes, it is very insignificant, :D but oh so worth it :D its just a simple bulb change to some LEDs.

Hey Awesome write up man, The plus with aftermarket kits is the choice of different kelvin (or HID bulb color) I think the glare isnt so bad and the cut off line look preety much perfect. Im kinda new to the projector lens but i like the them ! Im in the middle of buying a 07 wrx wagon and gotta ask how you like it, also how hard was the DRL disconecting? Any Issues?

HID unplug as shown. Everything has been working since the day i installed them in. Although I am realizing how I need more intensity to truly enjoy these lights. But then again, I wanted the bluish tint look when you're looking at my car.

When these breaks, I'd go tsx retrofit because then I know it should last longer than a few years.

Or then again, I could have sold my car by then and got something better.

i know it looks cool but, can you see well with 6k HIDs?

visibility with 6000k isnt bad at all, certainly an improvement over halogen by far, but any higher...its pretty poor.

i have 6k in my car i think and visibility is good, however i can tell you from driving my wrx at night and an sti at night....there is a huge difference in quality ...still worth upgrading to the plug and play, they look cool lol

You're very welcome. Wrote it because when i installed mine, i had not much directions on how to do it although it turned out to be extremely easy.

My input on the effective lighting genre:

It lights things up sure.. especially things that are reflective. But I don't know if i am just used to my car or haven't sat in another HID car in a while... but I feel like night time when it rains, I could barely see much. But then again I don't remember how it looked when I had my halogens in. Definitely in pitch black areas(much of wisconsin here) it lights things up perfectly!

Any issues with heat with these? I just saw the warning on their page about putting these in headlamp housings.

Any issues with the park light leds?

Parking Light LEDs are in perfect condition. It's been 1.5 years and there has been no issue.

I'm changing the ballast to the apexcone 55watts soon hopefully to get a little more output and a little less blue cause like many people said, you do get sick of it.

it's not the lack of width(though that sucks), it's the steepness of light falloff and hotspotting. you can't see as well except in the hotspot, and that's hardly ever going to be where you need to see things.

that, and the increased glare above cutoff is a huge problem. you can clearly see it in your second output picture.

This thread blows. It needs to be bumped into oblivion along with all the other useless plug and play kit threads.

Did you ever get to putting those 55W ballasts on?

I tried to install mine today and lights didnt come on. then i tried to see where i went wrong and i saw that i didnt disconnect negative from battery. does it matter or did i just mess up whole kit ????
