(after pic) (http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/album_page.php?pic_id=359128) and what I was hopping is some local San Diegan's to give me a hand, pointer, do's, and don't

2point0 08-20-2007, 04:33 PM nice! totally makes me miss my first car: 1970 Karmann Ghia.
I don't see many Type IIIs around and certainly none with Subie motors. good luck!

scoob-notch 08-23-2007, 12:25 PM In The Front Between The Headlights
subyrally 08-23-2007, 01:24 PM dude, if ever you have that car at one of my gatherings, i wouldnt let you park it away from the group, that thing is going to be sweet.

scoob-notch 08-24-2007, 03:39 AM good luck with your awesome project!!! def get a newer wrx of sti motor. i presume your budget is pretty large?
i wish my budget was large it is going to be a long while to get this done I'm projecting between 20-30k when I'm done
scoob-notch 09-14-2007, 12:09 PM Well I have made some progress on the pan of my VWSTI. I will have some pic's up on Sunday. I have ran the pipping for the radiator to the front, and if all is good and correct i am going to weld it all up, and have the local body shop straiten any imperfections, then take it down to have it baking soda blasted and powder coated. After that I am going to have the floor part rhino lined for sound deadening and rust proofing.
johnny p 09-14-2007, 06:19 PM Are you gonna run the Swing axle tranny ,or are you going IRS . good time to before you powder coat . the trans is gonna be the most expensive part of your project followed by the brakes and suspension.

as far as the rear suspention on a type3 it is waaaay different then a type1 bug, the rear subframe(suspention) unbolts from the car so whatever i do to the pan i can go ahead and do and not have to back track at all(pics tonight). i realy dont know if i am going to be using irs or swing, that all depends what trans i use. like you said it will be the most expensive part(form 2k-8k) aside from the sti motor
johnny p 09-17-2007, 12:29 PM To run the IRS , you can use a jig to weld in the pivot points for the rear control arm.
scoob-notch 09-17-2007, 06:50 PM To run the IRS , you can use a jig to weld in the pivot points for the rear control arm.
I can just buy a irs rear subframe they bolt to the pan and no need to fab, unlike bugs they are needed because the rear subframe is part of the pan
Blue5spdWRXWgn 09-17-2007, 08:56 PM You'll need to install rear engine mounts to the body and an engine hanger that attaches to the back of the engine case.

scoob-notch 10-16-2007, 05:36 PM well pan is off to the powder coater and hope to have it back soon. in the prosses of fabing a radiator in the front pic's soon to follow
TURBOTUNER 10-18-2007, 01:24 PM I'm planning to do a suby swap in a type 3 as well. I don't even have a type 3 yet though!! I'm on pins and needles waiting to see how your project goes. Have you figured out what engine management you're going to use? That's the most daunting part of it for me.
Good luck!
scoob-notch 10-18-2007, 05:34 PM The Ems Im Going To Use Is A Megasquirt It Is Cheep, Reliable, And Easy To Use. My Buddy Put A Rx7 Motor In His 57 Bug SYSTEM IS WHAT HE USED And It Screems With No Berps In Any Part Of The Power Curve
scoob-notch 10-24-2007, 05:39 PM THANK GOD!!! well i just heard from my friend that my house is safe no fire's came kneer it. i live in ramona and i haven't been home scence sunday night. I hope all is good with everyone else my prairs are with you all
scoob-notch 11-07-2007, 12:26 PM Well Pan Is Not Back Yet Due To The Fire's. He Has Lost His House And Just Got Back To Work This Monday So Its Been Delayed And Money Is Tight Due To The Fact I Hade To Spend 6 Nights In A $120 A Night Room
TURBOTUNER 11-07-2007, 04:51 PM Glad you're safe from the fires!
I just realized you're using a 091 box. How well does it fit? I know I'll need a stronger box but would rather not hack up the pan to make a 901 fit or pay a fortune for a built one.
surfbeetle 11-07-2007, 06:33 PM Scoob-notch, if you have homeowner's insurance, should be able to claim the $$ for your hotel stay if your area was evacuated. I saw the lt. governor on KUSI saying that during the fires.
ylfotevoli 11-07-2007, 08:34 PM wow. Looks like a lot of fun!

well im not a home owner im a renter i did try to go to fima but they said they really cant help me that much just for 1 day i missed at work and half the cost of the hotel so they did

depending on what type3 your building you dont need to hack the pan on mine the rear sub frame unbolts from the pan and i did the mod's from there
This is an awesome project - nicely done man!

si12j12 11-23-2007, 02:46 AM I would love to build a squareback someday, keep us updated!
surfbeetle 11-26-2007, 05:11 PM I thought about running my lines on my bug in the tunnel like you are doing. I am concerned about how warm it will get inside the car. I saw a bug at the Goodguys Carshow in Del Mar that had the radiator up front and used rubber lines down the sides under the running boards going from front to rear.

YES I SAW IT TO IT WAS A GREEN 56. THE HEAT WILL NOT BE A PROBLEM THE PROBLEM WITH HIS HE HAD TO REPLACE THE LINES ONCE DUE TO DRIVEWAY CLEARENCE IT'S A GOOD IDEA AS ANY. THIS WAY IS CLEANER LOOKING AND IM USEING AIR RIDE ALSO SO I CAN HAVE CLEARENCE. WITH A BUG YOU WILL HAVE A BIGGER TUNNEL WITH LESS THINGS TO MAKE ROOM FOR THE LINES. THE TUBES ONLY COSTED ME 40 BUCKS
