View Full Version : 97 impreza L help please
SubiePreza 08-19-2007, 03:08 PM Well i was wondering if wrx seat will fit or how to get some diff ones besides that lousy impreza L ones. Then engine, ive been researching for a while but cant get a straight answer on the easiest swap to do for more power with a dohc turbo preferably, and what year car that came out of. I need your help!! please, anything would be appreaciated thanks.
circaisdashiat 08-19-2007, 03:41 PM IMO there really is no easiest swap. They all are about the same work, the things you don't have to do in some swaps you make up for by having to do something else. Usually if you cheap out on part of it, its not going to run that well in the long run. If your going to swap it swap it right.
impreza_punk 08-19-2007, 04:02 PM Can't help too much with engine since I have never swapped, but seats are easy. Basically any Impreza seat 93-07 will interchange, WRX seats would probably be a vast improvement over L seats.
I'm actually curios about the SOHC/DOHC thing, I thought the EJ20 found in the 02+ was DOHC? Depending on what you want and how much of a build your doing I have alot of friends getting the JDM Forester engine which is a 2.5 Turbo. You get the boost and low end torque, however I don't believe it is any easier than any other engine.
99OBS-Chad 08-23-2007, 07:24 PM i know the 2nd gen. ej22 doesnt hold much boost but would it be possible for the 03 wrx turbo, manifold and all fit on an L impreza..

Physically, its possible - but that doesnt mean its a good idea!

I put 2004 wrx seats in my 97 impreza with no issues. Just need to transfer over your seatbelt latches to the new seats. As far as more power, depending on what engine you have now you could gain an easy 50 HP with an EJ25D swap (98 2.5rs or legacy engine). You can't really get a cheaper or easier swap than that. Plug and play all the way.
Slack 08-31-2007, 07:53 AM 2002-03 WRX seats are the best. I have some in my L and I love them! They are a little taller than the stock L seats, so if you are over 6ft tall it might be an issue.

This depends on the person. For some people the '02-'03's are better, but for people like me the '04-'05's are better. Any WRX seat is many times better than a 2.5RS or L seat (pre- 2002)

jedz123 09-03-2007, 06:50 PM FYI SVX seats don't fit unless you've got a welder... but anything fits with one of those. Uhh any way leather a vast improvement over stock L seats... FTW!

Why are they better? I'm not exactly thin, but I prefer the larger thigh and side bolsters of the 02/03 seats. I take most curves/corners at a rapid pace, so I need all the help I can get to stay in the seat.
