View Full Version : car tuned today
Kaldar142 08-22-2007, 03:16 AM i had my car tuned today by TXS in gaithersburg,
hks uppipe, invidia catless downpipe, hks hi power, turboxs tmic, turboxs intake and UTEC, stock turbo.
i put down 247torque and 245 hp when it was all said and done.
what do you guys think?
iheartmysuby 08-22-2007, 03:24 AM stock boost?
fubarud 08-22-2007, 09:33 AM Those look like good numbers for a stock turbo, depending on the dyno used. You might want to talk to your tuner about a new BCS. I couldnt get more than 15 psi with mine. Then he put in a GM bcs and it gained a lot of power.
AWDWRXLOVER 08-22-2007, 10:38 AM i think their dynapack reads high.

Did he try changing the brass restrictor pill inside the boost line?
FCmaniac 08-22-2007, 01:17 PM good numbers... I'm hoping for that and more from a stg2 + pinks/pump/tmic protune
Kaldar142 08-22-2007, 02:48 PM he said it was set at around 17psi i think
anyways i'm very pleased, the car pulls realllllyyyy hard my baseline run was 195 torque and 215 hp.
a GM BCS? whats that
DemonPossessedNinja 08-22-2007, 03:34 PM bcs = boost control solenoid
PaulRex 08-22-2007, 03:49 PM very good with stock turbo.. how bad does it drop off near redline?
Kaldar142 08-23-2007, 05:34 AM very good with stock turbo.. how bad does it drop off near redline?
ahhhhh i wish i had the dyno sheet with me, but um i can tell it defiently drops off a little near redline.
i'm pretty happy with it, but um tonight... i was little blown after a little bit of playing around with my buddy, anyways heres what happened:
he has a 07 wrx tr w/ TBE, flywheel/clutch and AP stage 2...
and mine of course (txs intake, uppipe, utec, tbe, tmic and protuned) and when we raced i wasnt even that much faster then him, it seemed like his car defiently pulled harder on the highway in somecases, im not sure it just didnt feel like my car was all that much better.
i know the 07s 2.5l wrx makes alot more torque but would that really make that much of a difference? i was thinking if im doing basically 250hp/trq and hes only rated for like 225whp that i would blow him away, because he was right there with me.
would his flywheel close the gap alot more or what? are the ej25s just that much better then ej20s? lol
bren wrx 08-23-2007, 10:23 AM you basically have the same mods outside of tmic, they come with catless pipes and a larger shelf of torque......what do you think was going to happen
JMK508 08-23-2007, 11:01 AM The stock turbo is not really a highway hard pulling turbo. You will get fast spool and good responce in the lower gears and that is about it. If you want a turbo for highway pulls it's time to upgrade.

i see, i do alot of backroad runs and some autox and do plan on road courses so response and spool up are a big factor to me, what kind of turbo do you think i should go with? i want my car to be faster then most cars on the street but i also want good drivability and response... what do you guys think i should go with?
WOR440 08-23-2007, 03:33 PM I believe TXS tunes on a Dynapack
KOERLONIOUS 08-23-2007, 04:07 PM Congratz, it always feels good to get a new tune....
bbong 08-23-2007, 04:22 PM Very nice numbers, what's next for you?

thats wierd i hit those #s with just a stage 2 protune no intake and no bigger TMIC.

different dyno different location different temp etc
And TXS' dyno reads more on the low side. Most others put down 550-600whp to hit that trap.

DEF trapped 128 mph putting down 450 whp at TXS
brickhoss 08-23-2007, 06:44 PM TXS's dyno reads a little on the high side compared to other dynos (they use a dynapack), but I certainly don't think its the highest reading dyno around. My 03 rex dyno'd EXACTLY the same numbers as your car, on pretty much the exact same setup on the same dyno. Your quarter mile should be in the 13.5-13.8 range (I'm sure it could be a little better/worse depending on your driving and the track you run at) at about 101-102ish. That's a sweet daily driver setup, I loved my car at those power levels for almost 2 years.
IMHO The intake and bigger TMIC do not really make a huge difference in your numbers on the dyno w/ that sort of setup. I saw a graph of a guy who came in the day after I dyno'd mine who had stock TMIC and intake and dyno'd exactly the same. I did notice a difference after some time at the track, because the heatsoak seemed to be a much bigger issue with the tiny stocker.
Good numbers man! Very little lag, and super fun to drive. It drove very similar to my small-block camaros in acceleration characteristics.
Kaldar142 08-23-2007, 10:03 PM Very nice numbers, what's next for you?
I was thinking of a 18G turbo, possibly a 16G or a VF34 and all the rest of the bolt ons and i might switch over to FMIC.
but before that, i'll be upgrading my wheels/tires, brakes and suspension (first is swaybars/endlinks)
Kaldar142 09-22-2007, 07:42 PM bumpppppp
um
wheres a stock td04 turbo sopposed to hit full boost by on a tuned setup like mine? because i seem to be hitting it around 3500rpms ... seems a bit high, if im doing 5mph and stomp it in first gear, it takes a bit for it to hit boost.
i DO have an exhaust leak somewhere between the manifold/uppipe or uppipe/turbo, i dont think its a big one but i know i have one, would that cause my problem?
yes! pre turbo leaks affect spool up time, even small ones.
Kaldar142 09-23-2007, 03:24 PM would it make me lose power or just take longer to spool? because ive noticed im getting boost by 3400-3800 on the td04 lol
my car was tuned by jermaine at turboxs and he does excellent work so i know its not my tune
jdmgto 09-23-2007, 03:34 PM good numbers!!
