View Full Version : WRC for Frank&Dan Sprongl ??
TOMMY B 01-10-2002, 08:40 AM I think this is the new car that frank and Dan Sprongl will be running for 2002. The good Old Ford Escort WRC........ Say good bye to the old Audi......

RALLY ON /////////////////////
Very nice! That's awesome. I think Frank is one of the better drivers in N. America, he just hasnt had a competitive car in so long. I expect to see more top finishes out of him now.
mykrrrr 01-10-2002, 11:06 AM Frank & Dan are definitely fast but they seem to be having a hard time transferring the speed from the Audi to the other more modern cars they've driven (Cossie & EVO)
They'll be @ Sno*Drift so we'll see how they go. :D

johnfelstead 01-10-2002, 11:31 AM thats not an Escort WRC
Thats either a groupN or GroupA spec car with WRC front and rear spoiler on.
Still nice though. ;):D
Weasel 555 01-10-2002, 11:36 AM Tommy B,
time to acquire a rex !!!! ;)
hint,hint ;)
ColinL 01-10-2002, 11:37 AM not that I doubt you, but what are the telling signs?
Future Subaru Driver1 01-10-2002, 11:49 AM that's the Escort they have had around for close to a year...
they accuired that car when they blew up the Audi and the motor rebuild took close to 1 year.
Dan Sprongl ran that car a few times during the year....if you look at the name stickers on the window is says
D. Sprongl (driver)
B. Maxwell (co-driver)
i doubt they will be running that car next year...they will probably be in an Evo 4 or 5......since the Audi is retired with an unfixable motor.
and yes.. Frank is probably one of the best drivers in North America, What he has done with that Audi which is 10 years old is simply amazing....just the fact that he can keep up with brand spanking new WRX's and Evos is simply amazing....with a good car they can win many rallys and championships.
and i believe they will be running Group N next year instead of Open so they have the ability to compete Overseas and anywhere they want..
cvalle-sd 01-10-2002, 11:54 AM I can't tell from the exterior, but the Escort Cosworth (which that might be) and the Escort WRC (which that apparently is not) have different suspension setups IIRC
johnfelstead 01-10-2002, 11:57 AM The intercooler is in the wrong place for a WRC spec car.
On the groupN/A Escort its behind the upper front grill.
On the WRC spec Escort it's behind the lower front grill, just like an EVO5.
There are hundreds of other diferences but thats the easiest to spot from a picture like that. :D
Robin2 01-10-2002, 01:51 PM They bought this car when the Audi died..... and when they were waiting for the rebuild from Germany...
Frank drove it at the Charlevoix FIA rally in 2000 and crashed it.....
Dan S. drove it in regional ontario (club rallies) in 2001.....
From what I heard at the last rally, is that Frank doesn't intend to compete in 2002..... especially with no major sponsor and no real car.....
The rumours though he's trying to get a ex-WRC Focus..... (rumours only).....
Their shop have been pretty busy in prepping other cars..... Thompson's 02WRX, etc.......
If he doesn't compete, it will be a great loss on the Canadian Series (even though he's the competition).

jesse370 01-10-2002, 03:17 PM Those two in that old audi would just fly on stages.
