I listened to a Shell engineer tout the benefits of his company's gasoline on Thursday so I thought I'd give it a try.

I normally run 100 but I've been on 91 for a few weeks... When I do run 91, it's typically Chevron 91 from the same station, and on my 91 hot map, I never have (and have never had) knock.

Right out of the gate on Shell v-power 91, I got knock (flashing CEL) in 4th, 5th and 6th (under load at about 4k and up RPM) on my 91 hot map. No knock on 91 safe (UTEC and ECUTek both being used).

Anyone else tried Shell recently (110+ heat)... opinions one way or the other on it?

Just switched to shell from Mobile 76 and have noticed a more responsive throttle, not sure why... I like Shell better tho.

I had the same problems with Shell, recently switched to Chevron and use it exclusively. Car runs alot better.

Well, seems like the consensus so far is... no consensus. I'm going back to 100 when the Shell tank is gone, and maybe I'll try a few more tanks of Shell next time I want to go 91.

I do, & have a map just for that. I go straight 100 for autox, and there's one coming up in two weeks (http://www.azsolo.com/schedule.html).

I don't commute too much in the STi, though sometimes I have to for a week or two at at time (as was the case for the last 2 weeks, but not for the next month or so). Definitely I miss driving it, but I also like keeping it loaded with 100 as a sometimes plaything. :banana:

I too have had good results from Chevron. Other than the sales pitch, any reason you are not sticking with the Chevron from before?

The guy from Shell was very informative, and passionate about his company's fuel, plus it does not contain MTBE so I thought I'd give it a try. Plus, there's a Shell station very close to my new home in Phoenix.

I thought i'd ask in this thread as you all seem to know your gas: I live in the UK and will soon move to the USA - San Diego. I want to import my car - a 15,000 mile classic 1999 STI Version5 which has been mapped on Shell V-Power RON99. Do you guys have fuels of that hi octane available in the USA as i hear fuel grades there are typically weaker than those in Europe. Thanks for any help you can give. regards from the UK Andy

I wish I could get the RON numbers of the US gasolines. We just get (RON + MON)/2 on the pump. In my area we get 93 at the pump RON? MON? A few months ago at a meeting on rheological properties of diesel Fuels, a Shell R&D guy told me that for a turbo car like mine a high RON is better than a high MON. Some other folks would argue this point. But an expert may know more, or may he was:confused:
