View Full Version : Locating 93 gas in Anchorage
YANG_STI 09-02-2007, 06:55 PM I'm new to the game. Just bought my STI the other day and was reading through the manual. Apparently, STI needs 93 level gas and I've seen only 90 in town. Maybe this question has been answered before (then leave a link). Any ideas?
Khraine 09-02-2007, 06:56 PM Yeah i made this mistake when i moved up here. Anchorage and alaska for that matter are the devil. So 90 is what you are going to find. everyone swears by Torco to boost your octane. I've been running my WRX on 90 with a stage 2 cobb and had no problems
wuuusaa 09-02-2007, 07:03 PM b/c torco does increase your octane
prometheum 09-02-2007, 07:31 PM unless your sti can travel through time you'll only find 90 up here, and even if it did travel back through time you'd only find 91. although when i first moved up here there were 2 deloreans for sale
sti.2005.blk 09-02-2007, 07:50 PM i hate Alaska, cant wait to move.
.... whats the highest octane rating in Washington?
YANG_STI 09-02-2007, 08:10 PM Anyone know if 90 octane, continuously used, will be bad for the STI's engine? and would it void the warranty because I'm not using 93 octane?
YANG_STI 09-02-2007, 08:11 PM Sorry for not introducing myself to the AKIC community. I'm Michael Yang. I'll be driving a 07 white STI with gold rims in town.
Getagrip 09-02-2007, 08:19 PM Welcome to the AKIC.

2 questions for you sir.
1. Do you live on elmendorf? or visit elmendorf housing?
2. Were you at the mall today?
just wonderin, i know this thread has already answered your question.
AWDBST 09-02-2007, 08:46 PM Half a can of Torco will do the trick. You can get it from Hi-Speed Solutions she is a local vendor on here. If Hope is out she can tell you who has some in stock.
YANG_STI 09-02-2007, 08:50 PM LOL. I don't live on base and I wasn't at the mall. You sounded like a cop for a minute there (sarcaism).

akturbogti 09-02-2007, 09:09 PM To answer who asked about washington, where I am from, there is 93 at the pump in prosser/pasco and there are Sunoco stations in a few places that have 110 unleaded at the pump.
Akrexak 09-02-2007, 09:38 PM i hate Alaska, cant wait to move.

tribalwrx 09-03-2007, 02:26 AM just get your self some torco and be happy, alky injection is great but listen to this part carefully"YOU WILL NEED TO GET A TUNE FOR IT", so buy some torco , the car will idle smoother and run better once you've got high oct in her
Jaylyons1 09-03-2007, 03:28 AM heres my 2 cents....

BadAshSuby 09-03-2007, 03:42 AM Most gas stations in Washington have at least 93. I was living in Spokane for two years and would drive across the state frequently and even into northern Idaho and had no problem finding 93.
Arctic Assassian 09-03-2007, 03:54 AM If torco is too expensive for your tastes (although you DO drive an STI) you can add a 20% mix of tolulene to your fuel, and gain about three octane points. You can buy tolulene by the gallon (or by five) at almost any REAL hardware store. My parts guy (Tony) at F.A.T.S uses this in his turbo daytona, and he has driven the F.A.T.S. dragster for more than a few years.

my manual suggests 91 or higher...though my tune does not :P

welcome to akic
Nah Phil (me) knows already. Met mike on friday at conti.
I'm running 90 octane right now with no additives. Until I do anything engine mod wise, I believe 90 will be just fine. Subaru actually recommends 93 on all their turbo models. Of course that means every average subaru owner (by that I mean people who just bought the car and don't do anything to them) are running 90 octane just fine.
AKLGT 09-03-2007, 12:43 PM i already PM'd you regarding the Torco question. Since you're running stock, you will probably bo OK, just use the Chevron w/ Techron 90. It's as close to 91 oct we have up here. otherwise, you can run Torco but it does get expensive. Unless you are running stg 1 or more, I honestly didn't feel a huge difference on my LGT when i was stock. however, I will say once you go stg 1, you definitely will want to use it. ;) MORE POWER!!!
and yes.... plenty Torco in at the Hi-Speed Kiosk.
edo2000 09-03-2007, 01:07 PM Due to our fairly small market and the fact we are beyond the gas/diesel distribution network for the lower 48, we have up to 90 RON gas, only. On the question of which brand to buy... pretty much ALL of the gas/diesel/jet fuel used in the railbelt area (Anc, Kenai Peninsula, MatSu, etc) comes from the Tesoro-Alaska refinery in Nikiski. There are proprietary additives inserted by different distributors, like Chevron/Texaco/Shell but they are in tiny quantities (parts per million) and don't raise the RON rating of the gas. Tesoro also inserts similar additives (to help maintain fuel injection systems) when they refine the gas originally. I would just buy 90 octane gas from a station that has a well maintained, high volume business. If you're in southcentral AK, it's all the same gas.

ya know... driving a STi is sometimes the reason you cant afford some things... higher insurance, higher car note... more tickets till ya go wingless(according to popular opinion)... ya know!
wuuusaa 09-03-2007, 02:05 PM ya know... driving a STi is sometimes the reason you cant afford some things... higher insurance, higher car note... more tickets till ya go wingless(according to popular opinion)... ya know!
can you prove that
Jaylyons1 09-03-2007, 02:10 PM can you prove that
prove what? that its more expensive? or the tickets? Thats why i said popular opinion. I've only been pulled over once and didnt get ticketed. But seems like thats what alot of peoples think. ^_^
Arctic Assassian 09-03-2007, 06:26 PM I can't believe that anyone would allow an officer to give them a ticket for the wing. If that's what youre talking about. I don't ever give an officer my liscence, I show it to them, to prove I have it, then spell my name for them. If they threaten you, you inform them of your legal rights to sue them. It's painfully easy to sue a police officer and get off on a technicality. Plus, it goes on their record, every time something like that happens, and when pay-raise time comes around, blemishes are no good.

Also if you look into alky injection you would also want to look into a failsafe. One that can measure any change in boost, tps, pressure, a/r, and etc.

or until the person stops driving like a prick
tribalwrx 09-04-2007, 06:05 PM were the hell did that come from
seascooby 09-04-2007, 08:19 PM sorry...it wasn't meant to be rude. i'm saying that if you like your spoiler enough all you have to do is follow traffic laws. my appologies

I disagree with you SS, because, though I..at times drive "spirited", i usually drive very conservatively and still get looks from cops and undercovers. and about the 93 AKLGT summed it up about right.
Jaylyons1 09-05-2007, 12:44 AM wow, this blew up. Like I said, I havent gotten any tickets up here... and I have a wing... But all I hear(until now) is how the wing draws more attention and gets ya pulled over. I have been pulled over while the cops inspected my car, but I didnt get ticketed. lets just get back on topic, not tryin to get people at each other...
whoaslowdown 09-05-2007, 01:27 AM The best I'm finding in washington as of now is 92.. Never saw 93 just yet..
