View Full Version : FS: 02 WRX Impreza
AKlgt_Airborne 09-07-2007, 02:53 PM My mother in law is selling her 2002 WRX Impreza. It is her daily driver, and she doesnt 'know', or want to know, how to bring out the potential of this car. She had 80,000 miles on it, mostly highway, when the crank bearing blew up. She replaced it with a sti 2.5l, and then the tranny had problems. So she replaced the transmission with a new one, that tranny was sticking in 3rd gear, and had it rebuilt. She just got it back and wants to get rid of it for a "camry". She doesnt want to work on the car herself, or deal with a car that needs personal attention, or even take it to a shop. The new engine has 600 miles on it. Its silver, 4 doors, takes 90 + octane gas, and has two sets of wheels. Winter stocks with studs, and summers with low profiles. She wants, and deserves, $13000. A steal, when the engine and tranny cost a pretty penny themselves. She is basically selling the car for what it was worth before the engine and tranny were replaced. Any more info wanted, call 907-373-7610. ask for julie. thanks.
i am in Iraq, or i would be all over this. that and i just got an 05 OBP lgt.
Firestrike 09-07-2007, 04:09 PM Not to start an arguement, but all cars require personal attention. They just don't check thier own fluids lol.
That is a kicking price, I wish I had known before I got the VW. What possessed her to do an engine swap?
prometheum 09-08-2007, 04:53 AM might know someone, i'll find out on tuesday
AKlgt_Airborne 09-08-2007, 05:24 AM ^^^sweet, thanks.
the crank bearing destroyed the block, metal shavings in the oil. im thinking it was similar to what the 'hybrid project' is doing, except she paid someone to swap it. to be honest, im not exactly positive on what all was done by whom. i basically talk to my grease adverse wife who talks to her auto adverse mom, and things probably get lost in translation. I think some of it was covered by warranty, and some wasn't. all i know is that now it has a new 2.5l sti engine block with a rebuilt brand new tranny. I have not seen this car since i deployed last October. My brother in law, jason, knows a lot more about it, and might have done some work on it himself. I am just trying to help out, because i frequent these boards cause I just got a 05 lgt myself.
the problem with my mother in law owning this car is that she doesnt know how an engine is supposed to sound like, or a turbo.
personal attention varies on every car. you can own a camry for 100k miles, and never open the hood yourself. but with a wrx, you should know what the engine is doing, otherwise what happened to her could happen to anyone. turbo's seem to need a bit more attention.
tribalwrx 09-08-2007, 01:04 PM i remember this car, she called a few times looking to get parts and such, do you now if they used the stock headgaskets or did they go aftermarket with those?i had recommended getting aftermarket ones to try and keep the comp ratio around 8-8.5 to 1 with the stock headgaskets you end up bumping the comp ratio up a little bit i believe.
AKlgt_Airborne 09-08-2007, 04:46 PM im not sure, but i'll ask.

With an STI 2.5 block, 2.0 heads and OEM head gasket, the compression ratio ends up at 9.1-9.2(I think). Stock is around 8.2. I guess it works if your tuner is comfortable setting it up that way. You can't run nearly as much boost.

yes, no kidding! and remember, wasn't the 02 the first model year anyways? so there wasn't a whole lot known and if she's not a car person, probably had no clue how to maintain it. i know with mine, i (more like Mav) has to check all the fluids on a regular basis. never really did that on any of my previous cars other than regular maintenance. plus, i do hear all kinds of noises and sounds that i don't know if it's normal or not.
AKlgt_Airborne 09-09-2007, 01:14 AM she said she hadn't replaced the headgaskets, and she probably hasnt gotten it professionally tuned either. so its not a perfect car, but its not priced as a perfect car either.
her reasoning is that she only wanted it to run so she could sell it. im pretty sure she doesnt know what a boost ratio is, or even notice it. hence why she needs to sell the car.
